🌴 Fun Fact Friday: Tropical Edition! 🌴

It’s time for another Fun Fact Friday, and this week we’re featuring some of our favourite tropical plants!

🌿 Swiss Cheese Philodendrons have evolved holes in their leaves that help water and wind pass through them in their natural environments.

🌺 Bougainvillea may be known for their vibrant colour, but did you know they also have thorns?

🌸 Bromeliads use their roots mainly for balance and support, while taking in most of their water and nutrients through their leaves.

🌳 Rubber Trees were highly sought after in the early 1900s because their latex sap was used to produce natural rubber.

🎵 Drop it like it’s hot… or in this case, drop it like it’s shade-loving. 🌿😅

Hostas, Solomon’s seal, astilbe, bleeding hearts, and heuchera are some of our favourite shade perennials here at Lakeland Plant World!

And yes… before anyone asks, no plants were harmed in the making of this video. 😂 Stay tuned for the behind-the-scenes footage…

Fresh arrivals are rolling into Lakeland! 🌿

Our latest shipment is packed with beautiful perennials, along with a few shrubs and grasses to freshen up your garden. New rhododendrons have arrived, three new varieties of salvia are now in stock, nepeta is back, peonies are looking fantastic, and Karl Foerster grass and silene have both made their return.

And that’s just the beginning. There’s so much more to discover throughout the garden centre, so come take a stroll, explore the benches, and maybe find a few new favourites to bring home.

The excitement isn’t slowing down either—we still have THREE more deliveries arriving this week, including annuals, vegetables, and even more perennials.

If we could walk 1,000 miles… we’d probably still end up bringing home more tropicals. 🌴😂

Fresh tropical deliveries have arrived at Lakeland Plant World! From beautiful Fig Trees, Penta Standards, and tropical Kiwis, to Papayas and stunning Standard Fuchsias, the greenhouse is looking better than ever.

A special shoutout to whoever broke three of our windows this weekend… thanks for giving us something else to add to the to-do list. 😅 Luckily, it takes more than a couple of broken windows to slow us down!

The tropicals keep rolling in, the greenhouse is packed with color, and there’s plenty more to see than what made it into this video.

Tropical vibes all around the greenhouse right now, Lakelanders 🌿☀️

🌼 Our standard gardenias are starting to bloom, filling the greenhouse with that classic sweet fragrance everyone loves.

🌱 The fiddle leaf figs are looking lush and full, making a statement wherever they go.

💜 The purple bougainvillea on trellises are absolutely loaded with colour right now, adding that bright tropical feel.

🧡 The thunbergia — both on tall trellises and on smaller trellises — are ready to keep the blooms coming all summer long.

🍋 And yes… the citrus is looking amazing too! Our lemon trees are covered in fragrant blooms that smell incredible, and some of the lime trees already have tiny limes growing on them!

Fun fact time, Lakelanders 🌿👀

Here are a few fun facts about some of the plants featured in today’s video:

🌸 Lantana plants have prickly, hairy stems and leaves that can release irritating oils.
🌸 Petunias are actually related to tomatoes, potatoes, and even to***co.
🌸 Fuchsia flowers are edible and are sometimes used in cakes, cocktails, and salads.
