The chestnuts have tails! Yesterday we got them into our airprune bed with a thick layer of mulch.
We are now doing our own little breeding project. Dylan has been selecting the most precocious (producing nuts early in their life) and we're planting them out. Several trees have produced in only three years. In future years we will be offering seedlings from these trees.

Come down to the Denman Island Seedy Saturday tomorrow and trade some seeds, talk about gardening and enjoy some great food prepared by Bee Balm!

Bee’s catering will include breakfast goodies & coffee, tea, hot cider and warm date milk, fresh bread and local organic soups, hot cider, and pay-what-you-can chilli&bread. Come by for lunch!

Join us for an open house and free tour of The Woven Grove permaculture nut orchard. Come nerd out with us about nut trees, alley cropping, nitrogen-fixers, succession plantings, and more. Apr 8th, 1800 Lacon Rd, Denman Island, tour starts at noon. The Woven Grove is also home to Nutcase Nursery and we'll have big discounts on all nut trees that day, 10-5pm.

You can make a day of it as there will also be plant sales at our fellow Denman Island nurseries: Denman Island Heritage Apples and Tree Eater Nursery.
