So, I was hired by another client who had had a stroke a few years ago and couldn't keep her garden weeded. She had just suffered another stroke and the garden path from the gate to the house, which used to be canted to one side, became unmanageable for her. I levelled the path with a lawn cutter marking out the curve and a pick axe to take out the higher side. The first picture shows the work in progress and the second one the final product.

This is a picture of the bed at my client I had posted about earlier this year. The Perovskia has really grown and looks good with all of the snapdragons around it.

As you can see, my client has opted for a with some taller plants against the wall. She is a person after my own heart because I'm not a fan of - they don't feed the . The plant in the foreground is a Ceanothus which will get to provide privacy. And, in the back is a pot planted with a yellow Hakonechloa, a plant I introduced to my client, who is partial to things yellow. Another thing we share.

The rose which kept growing out of bounds is now against the wall of this shed, where it can spread sideways. Against the short wall on the right is a sprig of an old rose I grew which will have highly fragrant, mid pink flowers and it will grow nice and tall to hide the wall.

We've been busy in the backyard as well. My client had a cement path along the wall taken out, which gave us more planting room. The beds on both sides of the slate path are planted with and overplanted with which will self seed. In the front is a Perovskia and behind is a fall flowering in a beautiful light shade with will tone nicely with the blue of the Perovskia. To the left of the Perovskia is a rose rescued from a shady spot, which occupies the place of a which kept growing out of bounds.

And, you wouldn't think these two would go together - and - but they do. and a rose I had .very about ...

Finally, in a strip of shade by the fence, we've planted a bunch of plain Jane Heuchera from various parts of the backyard - en masse they look infinitely better. Further along is Kierengeshoma palmata, because my client loves yellow; some deer ferns; a forest anemone in white from my collection; a refined Astilbe, also from me; Corylopsis pauciflora; a native yellow violet and some Alchemilla mollis, again form the backyard. We're getting there.

We've done quite a bit of work in the back yard as well, moving about roses and other plants. My client was given a rose of Sharon seedling which needed a lot of room so we moved some Montbretia to the front, into a bed between the house and a path. The cream pot has Phalaris arundinacea in it, where it will not spread. On the right of the cream pot are fountain-like grasses to contrast the uprightness of the Montbretia and there will also be clump of Nerine bowdenii once the house has been power washed.
