Echos of Nature

Echos of Nature This Page has been replaced by the page called Echoes of Nature (correct spelling) Verna has a wealth of plant knowledge.

We are a retired couple living on a 2-acre fully landscaped property. Verna, a Master Gardener, is responsible for the landscaping we enjoy. Verna propagates Rhododendrons from cuttings taken mostly from our garden and others in the Cowichan Valley. We have a large variety often not found in box stores or even nurseries. George loves to make new plants by growing from seed, or from cuttings, or di

viding perennials. Because of our enthusiastic propagation, we need to sell a significant number of young plants. We will try to be open on weekends for drop-ins. Please message for inquiries about availablity and appointments. Several times during the year, we hold Plant Sales and have our garden open for touring. Because we grow from our own parent plants, this is an opportunity to see how a plant looks once mature. I will endeavour to post regularly, letting you know what is blooming and available during the year. We keep our prices reasonable and want to pass on the joy of gardening and our love of nature.

Blooms of bulbs and perennials light up the gardens. The many varieties of lilies from Asiatic, Oriental, and Trumpet lilies to Daylilies, Calla and Canna lilies create kaleidoscopes in July. White, pink and red water lilies along with Pontederia cordata, or Pickerel W**d brighten up the ponds and offer wildlife a busy lifestyle. Delicious berries are plentiful, and promises of fall fruit load up the orchard.

This sudden change from cool weather that held blooms back, to intense heat is causing plants that do not regularly bloom at the same time to do so this year. Just a few of these are Rhododendrons 'Mist Maiden', 'Irresistible Impulse', 'Nancy Evans', and a beautiful tree peony.

What a difference a little sunshine and heat makes to a garden in Spring! George's collection of Dwarf irises are stunning. How can they be so varied? It is worth coming by to see those colour combinations. And they are labelled. I will post photos of these beauties tomorrow.
We also have the now blooming Rhododendron 'Cloudburst' and 'Paprika Spiced' and 'Apricot Fantasy' available for sale, along with R. 'Gartendirektor Rieger' which has hand-sized individual blooms.

Please note that this Saturday, between 10am and 2pm we will be assisting at the Cowichan Valley Rhododendron Plant Sale at St. John's Anglican Church parking lot. See us there.

We will be back home and open 3-5pm after the CVRS sale.
