PSA: THERE ARE NO PARTICIPATION AWARDS IN THE TRADES!!!!
Its been 20 years and I'm still amazed at what I find out there. An amazing customer of ours had her roof replaced a couple years ago by a company that we won't name. She called us when her roof was leaking ONLY TWO YEARS LATER! She had water stampeding into her place, soaking tape joints and causing drywall damage.We went to the site and found some crazy issues with flashings that were causing the problems.
The original company didn't properly replace the chimney flashings. They pressed some flashing up against the chimney at the base and instead of installing a proper counter flashing, they just gobbed on some tar, which eventually dried up and pulled away from the chimney exposing big gaps for water to run down the wall and into the roof.
At another chimney pe*******on, they didn't even try. There was no step flashings, no counter flashings, and the 100+ year old base flashing and back pan were reused. The back pan was stabbed by the roof rippers when removing the old shingles. There was so many places where water could get into her house and run down the walls.
We fixed it up right, installed new flashing, cut in reglets, and counter flashed everything. Be careful out there folks! Make sure you are hiring professionals who will take the time to do things right!
To the other trades out there, I know that there are a lot of you who do great work, but to those of you who try to cut corners: Shame on you for taking advantage of your customers and eroding their trust and faith in our industry.
