And spring transitions into early summer. I watch the seasons move through my garden. Irises are beginning to take centre stage, peonies in the wings. The cool spring is a godsend for plants, allowing blooms to last longer inspite of or because of our lack of rain. Morning dew provides moisture. Planting closely together allows plants to mulch themselves, saving trees and money, holding moisture where it's needed most.

Soon I will have time in my own garden cleaning up. Until then, it holds its own with little care. I am most excited for a pink iris to bloom, one for which I've waited 3 years, received from a past client. I am also deciding where Holly's holly will live in my garden. Redbud are fickle, and half of mine dies every winter. Time for something new. A lesson that we can't always force nature to do what we want. And then there are things that choose us...like the pin oak growing happily where it shouldn't, but I can't bear to cut it. Ah well.

I am happily taking new clients. Do reach out!

Radish, peas and spinach - seeds went in last night. Looking forward to the early crops that thrive in cooler temperatures. My garlic is sprouting and I planted radish between the rows. Radish are a great short and early crop that will provide some salad freshness before the garlic gets too big. Mangetout peas grow quickly with no waste - eat the entire pod - yum! And spinach will be the later of the three but with a great early start. Onions also can go in, if you haven't already. Don't forget to rotate your garden - meaning, don't plant the same thing in the same spot every year - this reduces the chance of species related, soil borne diseases.

The spring edition of Our Homes is out, and we're in, and taking new clients this season. With a wet week ahead and some remaining cooler temperatures expected, I predict we'll be right on time for spring openings May 1st. Looking forward to expanding our clientele.

Early irises are magical! This little one surprised me growing beside the driveway against the fence. It deserved a spot in the garden where it could be admired. So I moved it and it seems much happier.
