Now that you have planted your strawberries, you may have noticed that some of your leaves are looking like Swiss cheese. This is the clear sign of pests and need to be addressed as soon as it begins. You can clear and eliminate the leaf of any bugs crawling about (top and bottom) and depending on the amount of bugs, you may have to use an organic insecticide. Monitoring your plants for pests will occur throughout the growing season.

Strawberries require an acidic soil between 5.5 and 6.9 pH. If your soil is neutral to alkaline, you can amend the garden soil, build raised beds, or plant your strawberries in large containers filled with an acidic potting mix. When you get it right, you can get big berries from your garden plant.

Spring is the best time of the year for planting strawberries. Your plants need to to have strong roots and cover them in soil, but not too deep. The central growing bud must stay above the soil so sunlight can reach it and cause it to sprout.
