Can’t wait to travel far after this pandemic? Try this 7-day travel guide to the Island of the Philippines! Scared? Follow this guide and you will have fun the whole staycation. Inspired by our old heritage, featured here are some historical structures and homes from centuries ago. You will also find here some side trips to fill up every minute of your stay. Scared of getting lost? Don’t worry, stay close to the international airport and tour around the city and nearby areas. Lots to see.

Let’s start of in Metro Manila. Few minutes from the airport you will find the oldest Five Star Hotel in Asia.

Day 1. THE MANILA HOTEL. Built in 1912 during the commemoration of American Independence. Stay for the night here or find cheaper AirBNB highrise condos or hotels nearby coast of Roxas Blvd. Closeby is the BACLARAN Market where you will find cheap items such as a $5 Nike shoes or cheap Lacoste shirts. If lucky enough, you will bump into a guy who sells snatched Rolex for $50. If you prefer high end, go to the big MALL OF ASIA (MOA) for some nice dining that ranges from seafoods to international cuisines.

Day 2. THE WALLED CITY OF INTRAMUROS. Built in 1521 during the Spanish Regime, it served as the seat of political and religous government. The walls were built around it to protect from foreign invasions and from natural calamities. Here you will find Fort Santiago and a small San Agustin Church. Take a look at the MANILA CATHEDRAL just outside the walls. It was previously destroyed by earthquake but rebuilt in 1863.

Day 3. CORREGIDOR ISLAND. Pack up early in the morning and take the ferry to the island where you will find ruins of WW2. Americans also built the MALINTA Tunnel as a shelter from the Japanese bombings. It was meant to be bomb-proof. It’s an all day tour, but you can stay at the Inn overnight if you want to explore more and do some kayaking. You might meet Mr. Shark too.

Day 4. LAS CASAS FILIPINAS de ACUZAR. Head back to Manila and travel to Bagac, Bataan. Here you will see the first ever heritage resort in a 400hec land that showcases 30 heritage homes from all over the country. The resort was built in the 1900s by Don Acuzar. There are so much beach activities to do when you’re in the area.

Day 5. Indigenous “Aeta” Village or the YANGIL VILLAGE. Travel further north to Zambales and immerse with the Aeta’s culture. Sleep in a hammock or stay at the hostel. Then hike the trails or participate in the village’s tree planting.

Day 6. MT. PINATUBO “active volcano”. Wrap up your trip with a 2.5hrs trek to the volcano’s crater with the other mountaineers. Experience the volcanic ash massage or mud pack at the Pinatubo Spa.

Day 7. Home sweet home. Head back to Manila then to wherever your next destination is.
