Hickory isn't supposed to match perfectly and that's exactly why we love it.

One of the things that makes hickory so unique is its natural variation. In a single staircase, you'll find everything from light blonde tones to deep browns, rich amber hues, and even hints of red. Add in a few small character knots, and every piece tells its own story.

Unlike more uniform wood species, hickory embraces contrast. Those colour shifts aren't flaws they're part of what makes the finished product feel warm, natural, and full of character.

No two hickory staircases will ever be exactly the same, and that's what makes each one truly one of a kind.

People think railings are something you figure out at the end of a build…
But the reality is, the staircase needs to be planned right from the start.

This one is an Eastern-style stair with notched stringers, so every spindle lands directly onto the tread instead of onto a closed stringer like a traditional Western-style stair.

That changes everything about the layout and how the railings need to work. If these details aren’t talked about early, things can get messy quickly, with awkward transitions, bad spacing, and even code challenges.

The best staircases are planned with the house, not forced into it afterward.

That’s the difference real planning and craftsmanship make.
