First bouquet of the season featuring the glowing Globe Flower, Trollius ‘Lemon Queen’ ✨💛

One of the earliest and most profuse bloomers in the perennial garden, these sunshine-coloured blooms arrive just as the season begins to awaken. Often symbolizing joy, renewal, and resilience, globe flowers feel like tiny golden lanterns lighting the way into summer.

The lupins are budding and getting ready to put on their annual show, while the perennial Blue Star (Amsonia) is quietly stealing hearts in the background with its soft star-shaped blooms and airy texture. Blue Star is often associated with calmness, hope, and guidance — a gentle reminder to trust the season you’re in. Beyond its spring flowers, it’s also loved for its feathery foliage and stunning golden fall colour.

These perennials thrive in sunny spots, rewarding the garden with beauty year after year — each one arriving in its own perfect timing.

The flower field is waking up. 🌼✨

Motherhood changes shape so many times throughout our lives.

Some seasons are loud and busy and overflowing with little hands, little voices, and endless needs. And some seasons become quieter… reflective… nostalgic.

Today at the flower farm, I didn’t feel called to do flower work or heavy prep for the season ahead. Instead, I found myself tending to small maintenance jobs that often get overlooked. And somehow, it felt fitting for Mother’s Day.

One thing that caught my attention was the hens and chicks,Sempervivum, a hardy low maintenance succulent.

The mother plant grows tiny babies all around her. Over time, the center fades, but not before creating new life to carry on. Hardy, resilient, needing very little, reaching for the sun — and remarkably, one of the only succulents that survives our Canadian winters.

It made me think about mothers.

How we give everything we can to help our children grow strong enough to spread their own wings. And while there’s a bittersweetness to watching that chapter change, there’s also beauty in what comes next.

For me, this season is feeling the empty nester…and yet loving being a Gamma. A whole new kind of joy. One where the roots are deep, the pressure is lighter, and the love only continues to grow.

To every mother, grandmother, stepmom, bonus mom, grieving mother, waiting mother, pet mom, and nurturer in whatever season you’re in — Happy Mother’s Day. 🤍

This has been our week in the gardens…
Monday …t-shirts, happy faces, peace signs
Wednesday… sweaters, jackets and rescuing baby bunny while cleaning the gardens. Made a call to who came all the way to Fergus and picked it up. Was so impressed by their quick response. Praying it went well. Way to go .chartrand for making the call.

Thursday… I get to garden in the best bird sanctuary ever… never seen so many different birds enjoying the feeders. I’m convinced it’s not only the consistency in food offerings but the sanctuary of trees around allowing the different birds to have a safe place while sharing the food with other species. Sharing at its greatest!

Friday… SNOW… but got to see the fruit of our last years labor of over 1000 spring bulbs …

Hostas are poking through, daffodils, tulips are blooming, trees and shrubs are budding and we have a nice day finally for defining and cleaning up the gardens.

Starting up something for holiday season downtown
I love simplicity….cutting and collecting the greenery from a well maintained forest on a clients land and then popping in some hydrangeas I cut and dried awhile back. And then adding a little bow! That’s it & that’s all! Simple, pimple. Basically… my time foresting, selecting, cutting and a keen experienced eye focused on Mother Natures outdoor natural decorative provisions. How beautiful is that?!!!!
