Most people only see the finished driveway.
What they don't see is everything that happens before the new surface goes down.
A proper gravel driveway rebuild isn't just about adding more gravel. The existing surface needs to be broken up, leveled, compacted, graded, and rebuilt in a way that helps it hold up over time.
Here's a simplified version of the process:
🔍 Assess the existing driveway and identify problem areas
⛏️ Break up potholes, ruts, and worn sections
🔄 Rework and reuse existing gravel where possible
📏 Level and prepare the base
🧱 Compact the foundation
🚚 Add new gravel where needed
💧 Grade the surface to direct water away
🚜 Compact again to lock everything together
A lot of driveway problems start because water isn't draining properly or the surface has gradually shifted out of shape.
Taking the time to rebuild the surface correctly helps create a smoother ride, better drainage, and a driveway that's easier to maintain moving forward.
