Greetings gardeners!
Thanks to everyone who came out to help with the Food Bank plot on Saturday. There was a great turn-out, and all the tasks were completed! The crew even got some much-needed path weeding done at the bottom of the garden.
Just a few notes to share:
Work details: Lise has cancelled the work party originally scheduled for this Saturday, June 6th. This means that the next work party will be for maintenance on Wednesday June 10th, 6-7pm.
Plot tending deadline: Today (June 1st)
marks the day on which we ask all gardeners to have started working their plots! Most of you have done so, but there are a few plots that do not appear to have been started. We realize that it has been a cold, wet beginning to the season; however if you haven't started tending your plot, it is most likely very full of weeds, which will now be spreading to the plots around you. We are giving an extra week to allow all gardeners to start their plots. If you are unable to do so by the end of next weekend, you will be contacted and may be asked to give up your plot. We still have gardeners on our waitlist who would be happy to join and take over untended plots.
Garden soil: You will have noticed the pile of garden soil at the entrance to the garden. This was donated by Scott's Nursery. We would like to use the soil in the 8 new plots we intend to build this season. If you feel that your plot needs soil, please send an email to check with the executive before taking any bags of soil.
Weeding: A reminder that you are responsible to keep the pathways around your plot free of weeds. If you can remove the weeds early in the season, it is much easier to stay on top of. That being said, some plots are starting with a lot of weeds - if you're feeling overwhelmed with the weeds surrounding your plot, send an email with your plot number and we can try to find some volunteers to help.
As always please feel free to contact us if you have any thoughts, concerns or questions.
Happy gardening!
