Spring at Riverbend is a 'good news, bad news' happening this year! Some really good news - the peony season has begun! Some bad/sad news - repeated freezes and frosts have played havoc with our gardens and many of our pots...the good news here is they will recover, they just won't be pretty. Even better news - new stock continues to arrive for the next few weeks. If there are particular hostas you are looking for, it will be best for you to call ahead to check on inventory so you won't be disappointed. Our new hours - Monday and Tuesday- by appointment; Wednesday thru Friday 10-5; Saturday 10-3; Sunday - closed.

Today's eye candy for hosta lovers are H. Emperor's New Clothes - a sport of H. Empress Wu, and H. Frog in My Throat - a sport of H. Emperor's New Clothes. Both of these are medium size, and prized additions to hosta collections.
A reminder - tomorrow is our official opening day! New hours are 10 - 5, Wednesday to Friday, 10 - 3 on Saturdays, closed Sundays; Monday and Tuesday by appointment only. Many of our plants have wintered here in pots, and leaves are just beginning to unfurl. New stock will continue to arrive for several weeks. If you are searching for a particular hosta, please call ahead to be sure it's in stock.
We are excited to serve you this season!!

Still 'going to pot' every day!
Next Wednesday, May 6, is our official opening day!! We look forward to the 2026 season and meeting so many customers who quickly become friends.
We've changed our days open, along with our hours....open Wednesday to Friday, 10 to 5; Saturday 10 - 3; Monday and Tuesday by appointment; closed Sundays. These two octogenarians are slowing down!!

As I continue with my commitment to potting, I am delighted with new arrivals here at Riverbend....this showoff is Hosta Electric Fire - a dynamite intro from Doug Ruff, creator of H. Bloodline. This colour changing beauty emerges in spring with bright yellow leaves and intense red blushing in veins and across the leaf and red petroleum. Best colour in the spring, but holds well into early summer. Blush will fade and bright yellow transitions to chartreuse. New growth continues to show hints of blushing through the season. This small to medium hosta has good leaf substance and will develop and maintain best blushing with a few hours of direct sun.
