In the middle of May 2024, Reco posted the following message. Pretty much exactly a year later we are getting calls regarding this same scenario. We recommend that before spending money on any type of repair or renovation work, make a couple of phone calls, they're free. Maybe the six people that actually see our page can pass the word.
"Reco public service announcement. If a contractor comes to your business or home claiming they have leftover asphalt from another job and offers a smoking deal to pave your parking lot/driveway, fix potholes, etc. please do some research before committing. Search online for 'extra asphalt paving scam' or other combination of words and make an informed decision. There are various paving companies based out of the Grande Prairie area that will provide free estimates and do quality work. If the contractor in question claims to be associated with a local company, call the local company to confirm. Ask who they are getting their asphalt from and contact the supplier. At Reco, we get calls about this almost every paving season including this year. Most of the calls, unfortunately, are after the fact when its too late. Beware of high pressure aggressive sales pitches that demand an immediate commitment. When spending thousands of your hard earned dollars it only makes sense to make an educated decision. A phone call can be a pretty cheap form of insurance."
