Sharing our newest high-performance design, coming to South Frontenac, Ontario.
This home was designed around the site. South Frontenac means Canadian Shield bedrock, mature mixed forest, and a climate that demands a building envelope that actually performs. The response is a single-storey contemporary form with an expansive glazing wall oriented to the south-east, capturing views of the lake while picking up passive solar heating through the colder months. A continuous clerestory above brings daylight deep into the plan and supports natural ventilation. To the west, a three-season room is attached to the home but separated from the conditioned envelope, extending the usable living space without compromising the thermal performance of the main building. Double stud walls and deep parallel chord roof trusses give this envelope the depth needed to hit insulation levels well beyond code, keeping energy loads low without chasing a certification.
