In bedrooms and home offices storage is always a premium, and when there isn't any, rooms can look cluttered and messy. For my client this was exactly the case.

Her spare bedroom didn't offer any storage except a dresser and some hanging bars, (3rd picture). And in her home office she wanted a place to store school supplies, teaching books and other office supplies. Both rooms got updated.

In her spare bedroom I installed a tall pantry style cabinet with another shorter cabinet above. These cabinets have adjustable shelves behind white wood grain soft close doors. Stacked side panels went from floor to ceiling, with custom trim to ceiling and brushed nickel handles.

In her office I did a tall pantry style cabinet with another shorter cabinet above, same as in her spare bedroom. This one had a custom sized kick plate as it was sitting on a raised ledge. Custom sized fillers and trim to the ceiling were also installed. These cabinets have adjustable shelves and were left open without doors to easily access things on shelves.

Both rooms now have dedicated storage floor to ceiling for everyday use thats functional and fills a designed space.

Who wouldn't want to do laundry is this room?....

For my latest install for an existing client this was another room where they lacked any functional storage. (This is the 4th project Ive done for them to add storage, with another project to be completed in a couple weeks).

They chose to keep the existing sink cabinet/sink but wanted to add a stone countertop above their washer/dryer and add storage. And they wanted to keep the same cabinetry used in their kitchen, and their walk in pantry.

Warm white with subtle wood grain cabinetry with shaker soft close doors, adjustable shelves and black square handles. Shorter cabinet in the centre to allow for a black hanging rod for wet clothes.

Same style panels installed on the bottom to frame the washer and dryer, and added support for the stone countertop with a panel in the centre.

This adds more functional storage in a room where it didn't exist, while also looking magazine worthy.

Countertop template tomorrow, then install to follow.

And that's a wrap for this kitchen project.

My clients kitchen was actually in decent shape, other than some odds and ends that were dinged, so she was able to have Habitat for Humanity come in and salvage it. But she was looking for something more modern, brighter, and with more storage. The layout of the kitchen stayed mostly the same, with the exception of the fridge and pantry swapping places.

Kitchen is bright white with shaker soft closing doors and drawer fronts. A generous amount of drawers, each corner has pullout kidney trays, and the island has a double garbage pullout.

All wall cabinets go to the ceiling wrapped with matching white panels, flat 3/4" moulding on top to the ceiling and underneath to hide the under cabinet lights. Black square handles picked by client complete the install.

My client was really excited for the change, and to have her new kitchen installed. Also was really happy as the kitchen is now a brighter and more inviting space, (island to have seating on 3 sides).

Next up is countertop template, then install and then tile backsplash to complete this project.

Quite the transformation for my latest install, which happened to be for one of my wife's best friends and her husband.

This was a project we had loosely discussed since they moved into their new home last year. The last picture represented their tv/storage set up. With their furniture it was cozy but didn't provide the kind of storage they were looking for, nor did it provide ample area to display their turn table, or records, or anything else.

Here is their new built in media wall!

Base section is modified Ikea cabinets (to save some cost) fitted with dark grey shaker soft closing doors, and sleek black handles. These same handles I also installed in their kitchen. These cabinets each have (2) adjustable shelves and holes drilled to fish wires from the plug in the middle cabinet to the countertop tower cabinets.

A double thick stained birch countertop was installed on top of the cabinets.

Open dark grey tower cabinets installed sitting on the countertop. Left side has fixed shelves with specific heights, and the bottom section was designed to house their turn table, and the shelves above to store records. Right side has (3) adjustable shelves. Custom double stacked moulding to the ceiling was also installed.

A last minute add was just what this needed. The tv is going to sit on the countertop between the tower cabinets but they thought the wall between was a little bland. So I installed horizontal shiplap with primed trim installed as a border around the edges.

This major change helps to complete this space and give them the ample storage and space to display records and special items.

Light and bright it seems has been a trend for quite some time now, especially in kitchens. Lots of people are getting away from dark and closed in to light cabinets with an open feel. For my latest client thats exactly what she wanted and hoped for.

Her old kitchen (last two photos) was falling apart, the countertops were in bad shape, and she felt it was time for a change.

Kitchen was demoed, and new tile flooring was laid.

A new white kitchen was installed, keeping with the same existing cabinet layout. Doors/drawer fronts are matte white with a built in handle. All corresponding panels/kick plates and moulding installed all match the door colour. Faux walnut butcher block countertops around perimeter were installed, as well as a granite charcoal grey farmhouse sink.

Island is same cabinetry, but the client wanted to reuse her existing stone countertop she had on her previous island. This meant cutting down the depth of the two cabinets while keeping within the countertop footprint, but ensuring the drawers would still fit, which they did.

Lastly, I made and installed a custom 6" open cabinet right of the stove so she could store cookie sheets and muffin pans.

The light cabinets, and new tile floor definitely brighten up the space while giving her kitchen a modern and updated look.

Nice new walk in closet for an existing customer.

Their previous closet (last picture) was what they were working with. No storage whats so ever in their closet, so they used clothing racks, which was always a temporary solution.

I designed and installed this closet, by using off the shelf materials but adding little touches to make it stand out.

Plenty of hanging space for clothes, and a generous amount of drawers and shelves. Even though this closet is small, theres still a huge amount of storage that was added and sorely needed.

This is the ladder half of my clients basement project. First part was installing their pine tongue and groove ceiling boards. Second part was installing a built in tv wall with storage.

There was a jet out pillar in the right corner which contained a radon meter, which needed access. They also wanted the wall to be same depth as the pillar in the corner.

The base section is built out shallow Ikea cabinets with MDF soft close shaker doors. The countertop is made of pine stained Early American. Tall bookshelf cabinets flank where the tv will go, with trim on the face and will have adjustable shelves. Above their tv is (2) more open cabinets for storage.

The left of this is a tall shallow pantry with doors and adjustable shelves. The far right pillar I cut out to have an access hatch for the radon meter, then put the same height door as the pantry on the bottom, and installed a false door on top of the access door so that the doors on the pantry and the radon pillar matched. Black modern k***s picked by the client were installed. Lastly, I tied in the ends of the pine ceiling trim to the white primed trim.

This custom wall gives an actual space for their tv, but adds so much more storage that they lacked before.

This was a kitchen I finished last week.

Their original kitchen was in rough shape, was built in place a long time ago, and lacked even basic storage. Fast forward to now and they have an abundance of storage, while having lots of countertop space and a better layout.

The fridge moved from where the pantries are to where it is now, getting it away from the basement door. A dedicated "bar" area and a double garbage pullout were also installed. Top moulding was custom cut as ceiling was all over the place. And ch*****ne bronze handles and k***s picked by the client complete the kitchen.

The bar area presented a unique challenge after their kitchen was removed. The angle in the wall/floor (last picture) is from the basement stairs. Prior to install I modified the bottom of the base cabinet and the shallow pantry to go around the raised section (second last picture). It looks like it has always been there and looks great.

Im headed back there to install (2) stained wood floating shelves in the near future.

Stone countertops are up next (template is already done) then tile backsplash.

In the past people tended to install carpet in basements as it was warmer to the feet, and somewhat inexpensive in comparison to other flooring products.

People (including my returning client of my latest install) are going away from carpet to a better alternative. And for them having a pool, it meant installing something that is waterproof and will last without getting stained or musty.

So the clients ripped up the carpet and underlay pad, and scraped the floor so when the new floor went down there wouldn't be any issues.

I used to install flooring a lot, I only typically do it now on occasion as it's hard on the knees and back. My preference is to always remove any baseboard and reinstall after flooring is complete so it looks seamless and like it has always been there. However, the faster way is to install a type of quarter round or shoe moulding, which honestly make it looks cheap.

This was the flooring my clients picked, pretty nice eh!?

After installing the main room in the basement, it went quicker as there was a lot less walking to go cut things this time. Matching transition trim was installed in the doorways, and near the entry basement door. Once baseboards were reinstalled I filled all the nail holes and caulked them. Floor looks mint!

Client is happy with the transformation, and Im happy this installed turned better than I expected.
