We may not be wanting these cold temperatures to linger the way they are, but they sure are extending the early spring flowering that we get to enjoy!

All these bright pops of colour and life encourage the soul after a long, snowy winter. Hooray for spring!

This is after pruning about a quarter of the existing canopy to remove some height and density. Such a beautiful specimen!

Stark before and after shots of this lovely gentleman’s gardens. His wife had been the primary gardener but since she became unwell and passed, the beds became unruly. To honour her memory and all the love she had put into those gardens, we did a big cleanup, refreshed the edges and put on a layer of mulch. Now he’s able to enjoy and appreciate all the lovely plants once again!

First fall after last year’s garden overhaul at this gorgeous property and check out those mums! Planted from little 6” pots last September, many of those tender perennials came back and exploded in size.

To encourage fall mums to return the next year, cut them back in November once their blooms have faded and cover the root zone with a good layer of mulch. Uncover in spring as new growth begins. Once the shoots get to to be over 6-8” tall, begin cutting back by half to encourage more branching & a dense round shape. Stop pinching back in late summer as flower buds begin to form.

Well, our social media manager must’ve taken the season off so far because it’s nearly time to plant these bulbs and not a post to be seen showing all the great work we’ve done since spring! Let’s rectify that!

We were honoured to help both new and former clients with some lovely projects and transformations this year. Stay tuned for more posts!

Gorgeous untamed apple tree growing in a corner of the school field in my neighbourhood. The blooms are amazing this year! It’s a shame the apples are often out of reach (and likely have extra protein….)

On this bright, crisp first day of winter, we share the last (but certainly not least!) phase of our big garden renovation project: the front. The first 5 photos show the beds before work began and the final 5 reveal the final result. After major weeding and removal of old landscape fabric, we fought through lots of old tree roots from the massive birch trees that formerly anchored the corners. Once the new plant material was situated and settled in, we refreshed the edge and spread many wheelbarrow loads of mulch. Everyone was very happy with the outcome.
