Duarte Tile specializes in professional tile and uncoupling membrane installations—including Schluter-DITRA systems—in Hamilton, Ontario, and surrounding areas.
How Schluter-DITRA Installation Works
• Substrate Prep: The floor or plywood/OSB subfloor is cleaned, checked for evenness, and structurally secured.
• Mortar Application: An appropriate thin-set mortar is applied to the substrate using a recommended notched trowel (such as a Schluter-DITRA trowel or V-notch trowel).
• Embedding the Membrane: The Schluter-DITRA fleece side is pressed down into the wet thin-set.
• Pressure & Smoothing: Installers work from the center outward using a float, roller, or wooden/grout float to flatten air pockets and lock the fleece into the mortar.
• Waterproofing & Seams: Seams and transitions can be sealed using Schluter-KERDI waterproofing accessories and bands if the area requires full moisture protection.
• Tile Setting: Tile can generally be set immediately over DITRA, as the mortar locks into the square cut-back cavities.
