Our recent Glazing & Wood Graining class was a deep dive into the art of fooling the eye — students learned to imitate the richness of wood using only glaze and pigment.
We covered:
• Quarter-sawn oak
• Straight grain oak
• Bird’s-eye maple
• Mahogany
The focus was on mastering the subtle color shifts, grain patterns, and layering techniques needed to create panels that are visually indistinguishable from real wood.
This class is part of a broader curriculum designed to preserve and share heritage decorative techniques with today’s artists, designers, and craftspeople.
