A cabana makes it a lot easier to actually use your backyard more than 2 months of the year.

Heaters for cold fall nights, bug screens for those aggressive mosquitoes. Comfy seating, a TV, and a good excuse to watch the FIFA World Cup outside instead of hiding in the basement.

4 signs you’ve been avoiding your backyard for too long:

1) You start apologizing for the weeds, old furniture, or random backyard junk before anyone even says anything.

2) You avoid making eye contact with neighbours while “fixing the lawn” again.

The boardwalk leads you through the space and is broken up by arbours that give it structure as you move through. On one side, planting beds add greenery and a hammock is set within the garden for a simple place to relax.

At the end of the path is the fire area. This is the main gathering space in the design and the point where people naturally come together in the evening.

Small Toronto yards are tricky to get right. Here, the pergola creates a defined seating zone with privacy, while the mirrors bounce light and make the space feel bigger than it is.
