Not every garden bed has the luxury of consistent moisture — but that doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful! These tough, sun-loving perennials thrive in dry conditions and still bring major colour and texture to your landscape.

✨ Our top drought-tolerant picks:
🌿 Sedum (Stonecrop): Fleshy, water-storing leaves and clusters of late-summer blooms that pollinators love. Perfect for borders, rock gardens, or containers. Low-maintenance and winter-hardy!

🟡 Euphorbia: Unique texture, chartreuse blooms, and bold structure. Deer-resistant and super resilient in tough spots. Note: Wear gloves when cutting — the milky sap can irritate skin.

🌸 Lewisia: A hidden gem! Rosettes of succulent-like leaves and vibrant, candy-coloured blooms in late spring to early summer. Loves good drainage — especially in raised beds or rock gardens.

🌱 Planting & Care Tips:
• Light: Full sun is best for all three
• Soil: Well-draining is key — mix in sand or grit if needed
• Water: Water to establish, then minimal watering needed
• Spacing: Sedum + Euphorbia: 12–18”, Lewisia: 6–10”
• Bonus: These are all great options for xeriscaping or heat-prone areas

📌 Save this post for your dry garden zones — and swing by the greenhouse to check out our drought-tolerant section!

Tired of hostas? Here are 4 shade-loving perennials for Zone 3 that add color, texture, and charm without blending into the background:

1. Japanese Painted Fern
Planting tip: Choose moist, well-drained soil with rich organic matter.
Care tip: Water regularly in dry spells to keep fronds lush and vibrant.

2. Bleeding Heart (Dicentra)
Planting tip: Plant in early spring, spacing at least 18” apart.
Care tip: Let foliage die back naturally—it’s storing energy for next year.

3. Coral Bells (Heuchera)
Planting tip: Position so the crown is just above soil level to avoid rot.
Care tip: Mulch in fall to protect roots through winter.

4. Columbine (Aquilegia)
Planting tip: Sow in early spring or fall for natural self-seeding.
Care tip: Deadhead after blooming to encourage more flowers.

Swap your hostas for something fresh this year—your shade garden will thank you!
