What Makes Great Architecture?

Let us get a few things straight. Firstly, whatever we build has to be sustainable. Secondly, architecture is not only for the elite or a waste of money and resources.

Good architecture is based on a few fundamental principles, but incredible architecture is always targeted to the select individual, geographic limitations, and unique in some form.

Architecture does not have to reinvent the wheel; it can be as simple as a small tweak to the building's form that made it more practical while balancing the esthetic for a happy equilibrium.

By achieving unique simplicity, you have created incense great architecture. But to this point, it is a personal opinion if it achieved these goals. The art of architecture is subjective; there is no right or wrong; only what you and your client can decide.

Architecture vs. Engineering
Although architects and engineers perform many similar functions, there are many differences between the two disciplines.

The easiest way to compare these two professions is through their thought process, left brain and right brain.

The engineer is pronominally left brain focused, focusing on species mathematical, system and system buildingβ€”specialties in mechanical, structural, electrical, environmental and Industrial.

Meanwhile, an Architect is the right hemisphere, focusing on artistry, creative and the orectic thinker. With their specialties in building design & developments, urban design, landscape, city planning, graphic design and interior design.

Both Architects & Engineers thought process is necessary to form the conception to the finished project, allowing for buildings to be more aesthetically pleasing, environmentally friendly and safer for the public health.

Interior Decorating Secrets only the seasoned professionals know. 😎

Some people are born with a natural eye for design. But if you're in the camp majority, we have a couple of tips and tricks to help you achieve those HGTV aesthetic goals! πŸ™Œ

Transform Eyesores!
Change an eyesore to one of the centrepieces of the room. HCVA air ducts may look terrible at first glance, but they provide the opportunity to create a hip & modern industrial look.

Reuse Your Previous Furniture.
Just because your moving home doesn't mean you have to take a second mortgage on new furniture. Sure new appliances are a significant upgrade, but you can do luxurious things by reorganizing/decoring/refinishing your original furniture. This is a great way to save and focus on what's needed.

Make it groovy!
Take one or more aspects of your home and make it bold. The more daring you go bigger, the smile you will have! Please don't go too far with this one, have these bold statements as to accent pieces that add to the room, not take away from it.

Old & New Decor
The old and new decor is a match made in heaven, perfect for a bohemian flair.

Liven Up the Ordinary
Now, this is not for everyone. But if you want to have that Designer look in your home, just fun. Cool places to experiment are hallways, pantries and powder rooms. Enjoy the funkiness of the transitions, "If you're doing house flipping, stick to more traditional colours."

Lastly, don't be afraid of doing some of these things by yourself. Of course, some work should be left to qualified and licensed individuals, but don't be scared to have fun with painting and furniture assemble! ✌️

Make your Kitchen Impress! 😎

Crucial Tips for Designing a Kitchen You'll Love.

Kitchens are the central hub that holds a wide variety of your entire day to day tasks. So it's essential that its aesthetic, functions and durable! Whether from hosting a dinner party or making breakfast before work, your kitchen is the workhorse. DΓ©cor and architectural aspects must be working in synergy to achieve the balance that every kitchen requires. In the following, we will be providing the information everyone thinking or undergoing renovations should take into consideration.

Eliminate Wasted Transit Space
When organizing during the early design phase, always strive for efficiency during operation. The stove, sink and refrigerator should be spaced in a triangular fashion. Think about the number of steps taken in between; these three significant items shall not be too far away from each other but also give enough space for ease of operations.

Organization of Storage
Keep handy storage within necessary locations. The stove/oven region shall store mittens/pot/pans. Refrigerator storing ziplock baggage, plastic wrap for storage of cooked meals. Dishwasher, location purposed for cups, dishes etc.

Design Wide Walk Ways
Ensure your kitchen walkway has a minimum of 42". This allows for two people to easily walk past each other, creating the feeling of being more spacious!

Direction Of Flow
In the floor plan "early design phase," ensure to think about the flow of the kitchen. Have a clear direction of traffic.

Electrical
Electrical, there are a lot of aspects to think about, from the rough-in locations of your stove to where you are going to operate your coffee machine. 20Amps (North America) are standard in the Kitchen outlets and must be placed at least every 60" and not closer than 15" to any wet regions (check with your building codes). Think about your lighting within the room, how the layers of natural light will affect the ambience -atmosphere. Undermount lighting "puck lights," to highlight the countertops, and pot lights for above, try not to just form a grid; try to use the lights to create a focal point of the room.

Determine the functions of Island
Think about, the island is going to have a microwave, sink, or wine fridge. Keep this in mind before having your millwork/interior designer build the official design. For making design programs like Sketchup make are a lifesaver!

Consider the countertops
A quality countertop is one of the best investments you can make in your kitchen. It is the make or break of the kitchen; trying to save a quick buck will quickly show! Save money in kitchen cabin handles or other aspects that are easily changed; always go for quality on a countertop.

Focal Point
Choose the one point that your eyes will be driven. Use the rule of thirds to design around it, and your kitchen will look absolutely fabulous!

Once you finally complete, have fun with your new kitchen!
