Looking for a medium sized ornamental grass that brings movement, texture, and elegance to the landscape? 🌾✨

Molinia caerulea ‘Variegata’ — commonly known as Variegated Moor Grass — is a beautiful ornamental grass that adds soft structure and year-round interest to Okanagan gardens.

Its narrow green blades are striped with creamy-white variegation, creating a bright, airy look through the growing season. In summer, delicate flower stems rise above the foliage and sway beautifully in the breeze, adding movement and natural texture to the landscape.

Why we love it:
✨ Graceful movement and soft texture
✨ Bright variegated foliage
✨ Deer resistant
✨ Low maintenance once established
✨ Performs well in bright woodland settings and can do surprisingly well beneath mature conifers if it receives filtered light and adequate moisture

🌱 USDA Hardiness Zone: 4–8
📏 Mature Size: 18–24 inches tall (up to 36 inches in bloom) × 18–24 inches wide
☀️ Growing Conditions: Full sun to part shade with moist, well-drained soil. Tolerates heavier soils better than many ornamental grasses once established.

This is a fantastic choice for adding contrast, softness, and four-season interest to perennial beds, borders, and woodland-style plantings.

Iris season is here, and one of our favourites is stealing the show: Iris pallida ‘Albovariegata’ 🌿💜

This stunning perennial brings beauty long before it blooms, thanks to its striking cream-and-green variegated foliage. In late spring to early summer, it sends up fragrant lavender-blue flowers that add elegance, texture, and colour to any landscape.

Why we love it:
✨ Fragrant blooms
✨ Beautiful variegated foliage all season
✨ Drought tolerant once established
✨ Deer resistant
✨ Excellent for borders, cottage gardens, and rock gardens

Did you know? Not all irises grow the same way 👀
Some types — like Japanese and Siberian irises — prefer consistently moist soil and can handle wetter areas. But Iris pallida ‘Albovariegata’ is a bearded iris, which grows from thick rhizomes that like warmth, sunshine, and excellent drainage. That’s why this variety becomes surprisingly drought tolerant once established and performs best in dry, sunny garden beds.

🌱 USDA Hardiness Zone: 3–9
📏 Mature Size: 24–32 inches tall × 18–24 inches wide
☀️ Growing Conditions: Full sun to part sun with well-drained soil. Avoid wet or poorly drained areas, especially in winter.

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance perennial with multi-season interest, this iris is a standout choice for Okanagan gardens.
