Good afternoon, New Brunswick!

CJ Bernard here in the Storm Stories office, and I need your undivided attention. For the first time ever, the Storm Prediction Center has placed our region under an Enhanced, Level 3 severe risk for Tuesday.

This is a highly volatile, technical setup. Fueled by our sticky, above-average temperatures, the atmosphere is pooling up to 3,000 Joules of explosive CAPE. When that warm soup is sliced by 50 knots of shear and intense low-level helicity, we expect discrete supercells to rapidly form and transition into bowing segments.

The main hazards are destructive straight-line winds, massive 5-centimetre hail, and a limited but very real tornado threat, especially from Madawaska County down through the Fredericton region.

The wildcard here is timing. If tomorrow morning's initial showers clear out early, the afternoon sun will completely supercharge the atmosphere for a violent overnight event. Because these intense storms are expected to hit after dark, you will not be able to see them coming. Make sure your emergency alerts are loud enough to wake you up, secure your property today, and keep it locked right here for the meteorological facts!
