The MLE Approach To Lawn Care
Mow- lines straight and rotating directions each week to avoid ruts
Trim- all edges kept neat and tidy, lawn encouraged to grow down the vertical sides of edges.
Blow- all surfaces clean of debris. If there is already debris there, I might start with a blow and use the mower to vacuum it up
Fertilizer- I don't use chemical fertilizer but will be happy to use a purely organic fertilizer. However the best food for your lawn is its own clippings. I recognize that during the peak growing season leaving the clippings behind means a messy lawn, but there are times throughout the year when we can get away with it and I recommend that we do. However if you do want them removed each and everytime, I'm more than happy to accommodate that. I only recommend that we top dress the lawn with a turf blend soil on alternating seasons.
"W**d" Treatment- I don't use chemicals to deal with "weeds". My preferred method of dealing with "weeds" is learning to live with them. They can offer colour, attract the all important pollinators, and their clippings are full of nutrients.
Also, "weeds" appear due to "deficiencies" in the soil, for example dandelions show up because of a calcium "deficiency".
If they must go, I am happy to accommodate that but I must insist on pulling them and changing the dynamic of the soil through organic means.
Equipment- I'm not yet convinced that battery powered equipment is more environmentally friendly than gas when you factor in the mining for raw materials, the emissions from manufacturing and the batteries ending up in landfills.
So I'll be using a combination of the two, but my long term plan is to go zero emissions as soon as possible. ( Don't tell Uncle Phil.)
Cost- flat rate for lawn only, or an hourly rate for lawn and garden.
