Special moments captured by , who invited us to present to her sweet class for Earth day 🌎

It’s so important to us to share the love for soil, plants, and our ecosystem with young people as they’re such beautiful sponges of knowledge, and hold an open acceptance that things moving forward need to change.

But we can’t just rely on these youngins. We need to look to them as examples for how WE can be better and do good for our shared land. We owe it to the Mama Earth, to those inheriting our planet, and to all the non-human beings that we share this soil with.

We were truly moved by the sheer willingness of these kiddos to explore the soil, explore problems and possibilities, and to try something new! According to their sweet teacher, the seeds we all started together are doing great! We hope it inspires them to grow food at home and encourage those around them to do the same!

What a privilege it is to get to share what we love with others. It’s never lost on us that we get to grow food, teach others, and inspire new generations of gardeners 🥹🌱

Happy May ~ it’s almost time to get those tomatoes in the ground! 🙏

Much love and garden blessings coming your way!

In honour of our upcoming workshop at , here’s a little throwback to our previous herbal workshop in these beautiful gardens 🌿

We love sharing space with you all and remembering how to connect to ourselves, to the land, and to the rhythms of nature. Although our upcoming workshop won’t have us with soil under our fingernails, it will inspire you to connect deeper to the season of spring!

This GROUNDING INTO SPRING: Qi Gong in the Gardens workshop is a movement practice that will help us embody the season of spring, stretch our bodies after a long winter, move some stagnant energy, and cultivate some new and fresh energy!

This practice is appropriate for all levels and abilities with modifications to suit our needs. It’s also a wonderful option for those who want the benefits of meditation but have trouble in seated practices! We’ll be flowing and moving, embodying trees, deer and dragons, and bringing lots of fun and silliness to this nature practice!

Come out on Saturday at 11 am, align with your spring intentions, and ground into the season ahead. 🌱

Spring calls in movement after a long winter of potential energy stagnation 🌸

We’ll be sharing a weekly movement practice that is close to our hearts with you all through starting next Thursday to help bring in some spring circulation.

Qigong is a movement practice that can help us to work with our energy, learn to protect it, and how to use it responsibly as we walk through the world. Each week, our practice will focus on helping us clear away any stagnancy in the system and cultivate it through a gentle, intention-based movement in motion. Think of it as spring cleaning for the body!

Throughout April, we’ll focus on movements for:

🌿 the liver and gallbladder, the governing organs of spring
🌿 the wood element, our corresponding phase for spring

This means: side stretches and moving lymph and blood. Rooting to rise. Flexibility amidst change and staying grounded in our mission and truth. And DEER FROLICS! 🦌 animal frolics are our favourite to incorporate into practice because it keeps us SILLY & JOYFUL.

Qigong brings us deep into the rhythms of nature and allows us to see ourselves reflected in each shift and turning of the wheel. Come move, shake, flow, become a deer & embody the spring energy so that you can move through the upwards energy of this season more easefully.

THURSDAYS at 6:30 - 7:30 for our weekly class: https://estateofhealth.ca/event/qi-gong/2026-04-02/

A special SPRING QI workshop at on Sat. April 25 at 11 am: https://shopannas.ca/collections/workshops/products/guest-alley-l-biniarz-grounding-into-spring-qigong-in-the-gardens-saturday-april-25th-11-am #

We can’t wait to go on this herbal journey with all of you who have already signed up. 🌱🌱🌱

The Budding Herbalist is guided by Alley L. Biniarz, a folk herbalist, regenerative gardener, writer, and kitchen fairy. She feels most alive when she’s in communication with the plant world around her or learning a new (well, old or nearly forgotten) skill. She guides spaces that encourage us to intentionally tap into the rhythms and cycles of nature, as well as the seasons of our bodies.

🌿🌿🌿

See you on Sunday!

Just as the trees and plants begin the work underground before spring, so should we. 🌳

Before this time of pushing upwards and outwards, let’s look at how we can prepare our bodies, minds, and spirits for this time of growth. ➡️➡️➡️

These are some of our favourite ways to ease the way into the spring energy. Slow growth = sustainable growth!

How are you slowly beginning to welcome in the longer days? ☀️

We’d love to celebrate this new season in person with you in our RISING SPRING, Spring Equinox Celebration & Circle event happening at on March 20 from 6:30 - 8:30. There will be a herbal cacao preparation, gentle movement, connecting to the elements, grounding into our visions, and seeding some actionable steps. It’s the perfect way to embody this spring season with your community! https://www.theshalawindsor.com/workshops

🌱🌱🌱

We’ll also be bringing a weekly Qigong practice to starting in April, where we will explore movements for the liver and gallbladder, embodying the wood element, and learning how to move into the spring energy with more flexibility and grounded energy. https://estateofhealth.ca/event/qi-gong/2026-04-02/

You can read more about both events through those links or by messaging us!

Happy Spring preparations everyone!

It’s been a minute, dear friends, but we have a new substack blog for you about our time here in BC so far!

Dane wrote a heartfelt letter about the life we’d like to lead — and the one we try to inch towards every day, with every little action. It’s a beautiful glimpse into the reflections that come, not just with travel but truly rooting yourself in a place, even if just for a few months.

A look into the full piece:

“I want to live in direct relationship with the land, letting it feed and shelter me with its naturally available materials, which I directly tend to and help to prosper. This is juxtaposed to most of the way I’ve lived my life so far, which is utter dependence on external products from some place in the world I’ve never heard of or seen...”

We also share where we are headed to next in the blog. We hope you enjoy this one 🥰💚

Squash then VS now 🍠

These were some of the first seedlings we planted when we got her to and they’re taking over!

Squash are heavy feeders so they can require a lot of fertilizer, or you can just plant them into a compost mound like is done here. Slow release fertilizer all season long!

The blooms have been coming and pollinating has been a full time job in itself — we’re finally seeing some bees come around but they’re pretty quiet these days 😔

Ah July, you beautiful month. The high summer energy is starting to slow its roll and we’re feeling ready for some more harvest abundance that is sure to come for August.

Sauerkraut making through the years in honour of our upcoming fermenting workshop 🥬 ➡️

We are big, big fans of all things fermented — but it all starts with the simple kraut 💚 it’s tasty, versatile and so easy to make! You just need to know where to start 😊

This workshop is a fan favourite (a few of you even registered before we even had a chance to share it), and it’s not to be missed if you’re keen on learning how to ferment this year. It’s always a fun time getting our hands into the cabbage, massaging away, and making a delicious mess together 🙌

Join us at .ca on April 5th from 10:30 - 11:30 am | Registration is $45 and you can message us to grab your spot! You can check out the full event link here: https://tinyurl.com/5dpey3m9

We can’t wait to ferment some beautiful organic cabbage from together 🥰🥬
