Welcome to all of our new followers. Thank you for taking the time to explore our flower farm.

I started Blossom Hill Gardens years ago after I decided to leave teaching to stay home with my kids. It was also a way to pay for my evolving plant and gardening addiction that seemed to be growing. 😊 After my husband found yet another plant secretly purchased and hidden from him, he kindly suggested that maybe I needed to turn this love for flowers into a business. It was a very intimidating step for me starting a business but I am so glad I took a leap of faith. And thankfully things grew!

I discovered that connecting with customers and providing them with a product that brings beauty and joy truly energizes me. We now focus on sharing flowers with our customers through online sales of dahlias (available now), chrysanthemums (March) and tall bearded irises (June). As well, I love delivering the beauty of fresh cut local blooms to our local customers through bouquet subscriptions and custom bouquets. The past 4 years I have had the pleasure of doing florals for multiple weddings which I absolutely love! It is truly a treat working with brides to help make their floral dreams come true.

And through this all I enjoy sharing tidbits of gardening knowledge with you all. Thank you for following. I hope you can enjoy watching our business grow and share in the beauty & joy of our flowers.

Did you know lighter pink flowers symbolize gratitude and grace and deeper pinks, romance and appreciation? I am finding myself drawn to adding more pinks to bouquets and the garden, and not just the muted shades, I am learning to enjoy the bright Barbie pinks I used to love as a child. I think for a while I was too cool for pink but by my mid 40’s I am liking all the pinks again!
Such a fun and fulfilling colour to add to your garden this year.

Try some pink shades on in your dahlias

Dahlias in photos (available in our dahlia sale opening Feb 7)

Looking for a soft palette of dahlias for your garden or wedding? Our dahlia store opens Feb 7 and we have some of my favourite dahlias I use for weddings or a soft gentle garden vibe.

Photo 1- cafe au Lait. This is a standard favorite for wedding work with flowing cream petals and large sizing
2-Orsett beauty- this is a nice white medium sized dahlia that is a handy one for most wedding palettes. (Brookside snowball or boom boom white dahlias would work great here as well)
3-Gerri Hoek- a lovely light pink waterlily form dahlia to give a bit of texture to bouquets
4- sweet Nathalie dahlia has some lovely soft pink colouring and rounded forms
5-Yvonne is perfect for brides including peach (which a lot of weddings seem to include for colour tones)
6-Linda’s baby dahlia is another peach stole and Greta producer. I love using it in wedding arrangements
7-Bloomquist Tory P. I love this dahlia. Always perfect form and colour for most weddings
8-Janet Leigh is another lovely waterlily to add a bit of colour to bouquets
9-Rosario- if a bride is using a bit more colour this one is my go to beauty!
10-Hollyhill Miss White- this is a small dahlia that is a perfect little ball that can pop out adding a bit of whimsy (others that are great for this are Small World and Camano Zoe)
11- Silver Years. This perfect soft colouring and waterlily form make it a beautiful bloom to include in bouquets. Its delicate elegant form adds lightness and sophistication. It also is an abundant bloomer here on our farm!

If you are looking for special event flowers in 2026 we still have a few spaces left for this May-October. Creating wedding florals over the years has been an absolute joy of mine. Every time a bride contacts me with her ideas I get excited! 🌸 Flowers can add such a big emotional element to a wedding, from large flowing bouquets and opulent floral designs to simple bouquets and bud vases. Your flowers are an important part of setting the theme or vibe you want for your wedding and we are so happy to be able to be a part of that.
We love growing unique fresh flowers organically for your special event. You can also feel good knowing that your memorable flowers are also grown locally in a sustainable way. Message us to start a chat about adding more floral beauty & joy to your special day this year.

There are always lots of little details and plans I am working on to improve flower production, soil heath and customer experiences with our farm. However this reel highlights the bigger guiding principals that I continue to work on. I love sharing with you all the adventures of the farm (which may include wildlife encounters or farm pet pictures). And as a former elementary teacher, I love teaching others about plants, soil health and entomology facts from grade 2 science. But most of all I truly enjoy adding beauty & joy to our customers’ days through bouquet subscriptions, wedding flowers and dahlia tubers. And I love sharing all of this beauty with those of you who follow our small family farm. Thank you. I look forward to growing with you and for you again in 2026!

Delphiniums have been named flower of the year by Better Homes & Gardens. I love using these tall dramatic spikes in arrangements to create statement pieces! They come in so many differnt colours now with all of the new hybrids. From soft pinks and purple to dark and light blues. There are double petal varieties and some with unique coloured centers. (The center on a delphinium are called the “bee”). And if you cut your delphiniums down after they flower in July they will grow back and rebloom for you in September!
Enjoy some of our unique hybrid delphiniums in a bouquet subscription this year available at Blossomhillgardens.ca. Limited subscriptions available so we can make sure each delux bouquet is carefully designed and crafted for you 😊

If you stored dahlia tubers this past winter you may wish to start waking them in zone 3 if you have not done so already It takes around 3-6 weeks for dahlias to wake up from cold storage and to get a little shoot growing on them. As a result, you don’t need to put them into pots as soon as you take them out of cold storage. Simply bring them out of their colder area and let them warm up in some sort of container that allows you to keep some humidity in the tub.
If your tuber has rot/mush on it, cut is off so it doesn’t spread. If your tubers are dryer, add a bit of moisture to the tub so they don’t dry out more. Tubers that are quite shrivelled can usually still sprout if cared for.
Feel free to message me if you have any questions. 🌸😊
