Cow parsnip (Heracleum maximum) is a native biennial, often given a bad wrap due to its similar look to invasive giant hogweed and its phototoxic sap (albeit not as severe as hogweed, but can still be harmful). However, they have beautiful flowers, are beloved by many pollinators and is part of our ecosystem. Does great in part shade-full sun and can make a great addition if you have a spot where you dont need to make contact with it! The ones we have at the nursery now are on their second season and starting to produce their flowers for the year!

We have lots of native annuals in stock and ready to go including a couple you may not have heard of!
1st pic- Clasping Venus's Looking Glass (Triodannis perfoliata). What a name!
2nd/3rd pic- Slender Phlox (Microsteris gracilis), only a small number available this year.
In addition to these we also have the more common annuals such as Seablush (Plectritis congesta), Large-flowered Collomia (Collomia grandiflora) & Small Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia parviflora). Some are just starting to flower, but most are just about to take off and will be flowering soon!

Barestem Desert Parsley (Lomatium nudicaule) is a new species we have available this year as I continue my quest to grow every weird native species I come across. Unique greeny-yellow infloresence mainly seems to attract small species of bees and flies. Great plant for sunny dry areas!

A couple of updates for the nursery-
Our last day for our usual Saturday hours will be October 25th, but we will still be open by appointment as usual for those who still may want some plants after the fact.

We also have some new seed varieties available as well as others back in stock. New varieties include:
-Cascade penstemon (Penstemon serrulatus) pictured in this post!
-Clasping Venus's Looking Glass (Triodanis perfoliata)
-Cooleys Hedgenettle (Stachys cooleyae)
-Small Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia parviflora)

If you'd like to pick up seeds at the nursery, please order ahead of time by emailing or messaging us. Seed packs are made to order and may not be available at the nursery otherwise. It also looks like canada post will be resuming some deliveries on a rotating basis. Seeds can be ordered for delivery and sent out ASAP whenever possible, but I assume there may be delays and possible instability depending on how things play out.

Besides that, its planting season for seeds and plants, enjoy the fall gardening season, everyone! 🍂🍁
