Apparently I failed to tell Neil the ceiling is coming down. π Or so he says....but the look on his face when he realized I was serious. I won't soon forget. π
It was a gamble with a larger room, but I had to look and see what was under the gyproced stucco ceiling. The upstairs hallway turned out georgous so I had faith this would too! But nailes and staples create two different results with damage.
Neil build the frame of the pantry and I asked to see what was under the gyproc. As a test spot... if it was nice we could continue, if not it won't be seen.
Under the gyproc stucco was what I've always called tentest. Its like compressed cardboard. Really nice simple design, pretty, and different but I wasn't feeling that was right choice. So, we carried on to remove it and fingers crossed as we exposed the original board underneath. And once again this gem gave me exactly what I wanted!!
It was amazing! π A couple spots that we fixed. One spot Neil filled in with board he removed where the cupboards will go and it looks perfect!
Several hours...(16 to be exact over a couple weeks)....in cleaning, putty, priming and painting. I couldn't have dreamed a better ceiling for the kitchen. I absolutely love it!!! β€οΈ Feels perfect!!
I chose a color not too different from what we found. It's from the heritage color line and pulled from my wallpaper to match. It is going to look amazing!!
I'm very excited to start building the cupboard frames myself. Reusing cupboard doors and material that we have now currently in the kitchen and incorporating older antique elements will make this perfect! π°
