From her first co-op to part-time, and now back for her second term, you can really see the shift.

Shyla started as a Showroom Assistant, supporting the team with samples, pricing, and keeping things organized behind the scenes.

Now she’s moved into a Flooring and Design Specialist in training role. She’s working more directly with clients and starting to take on her own projects.

It’s been great to see that progression, and a really natural step toward what’s next.

We couldn’t let the Interior Design students from Fanshawe leave empty-handed.

Each student left with a curated swag bag featuring a few industry essentials, measuring tape, sketchbook, carpenter pencil, along with a few items from our trusted partners.

A small send-off for the next generation of designers we’re excited to watch grow.

We welcomed Fanshawe Interior Design students to the Flatout Flooring showroom for a behind-the-scenes look at what we do.

From exploring materials up close to asking thoughtful, design-driven questions, it was a hands-on session with a lot of curiosity and real interest.

It’s always good to be able to share our process, give students a clearer understanding of how things come together in practice, and spend time with them as they get into the industry.

After her first co-op, Shyla went back to school but stayed on with us part-time.

As she settled into the role, you could really start to see her confidence build.

From learning the basics to being part of real conversations, things started to click.

A big moment was attending The London Home Builders’ Association President’s Dinner last spring with the team. It gave her the chance to meet people in the industry and see a different side of it.

She’s now back with us for her second co-op, continuing to build on that experience and take on more.

This stage focuses on layout and linework, from precise taping to clean, consistent paint application.

It’s where the design starts to come together and accuracy matters at every step.

We’re kicking off a 3 part series following Shyla’s journey with us at Flatout Flooring.

Shyla joined us through the Interior Decorating program at Fanshawe College for her first co-op placement, and this is where it all started.

Early on, she got exposure to a bit of everything. Samples, client interaction, and what goes on behind the scenes day to day.

One thing she picked up on quickly was how important communication is with the team and with clients.

It’s been great to see her get more comfortable and start finding her footing.

More to come as we follow her progress.
