Great tips!
We’re not going to sugarcoat it… the box tree moth was brutal last year.
If your boxwoods didn’t make it (or you’re just over the risk 😅), you’re definitely not alone and you’ve got options!
You can absolutely replant with 1️⃣ Green Velvet Boxwood (we still love them, and sometimes they're just the best fit), but it’s worth going in with eyes open: if the moths come back, just stay on top of treatment. BTK is a great solution that works once the caterpillars 🐛 are present (there isn't a preventative treatment option at the moment).
Not feeling round two? Here are some alternatives we love:
2️⃣ BloomBux Rhododendron: evergreen structure with a bonus of spring blooms
3️⃣ Concord Barberry: bold burgundy colour, but drops its leaves in winter.
4️⃣ Dwarf Yews: dense, easy to shape, and great if you want a bit more height.
5️⃣ Thunderbolt Box Honeysuckle: bright green and flexible, but may need a little winter protection.
6️⃣ Globe Cedar: tidy, evergreen, and low-maintenance with that naturally rounded shape.
7️⃣ Inkberry Holly: the closest look-alike. If you loved your boxwoods, this is a great swap.
8️⃣ Jellybean Blueberry: not evergreen, but great texture, fall colour, and fruit. (or the BerryBux variety that is compact, and brings the boxwood vibes with minimal pruning.)
Different plants, different strengths! But all solid choices depending on what you need.
