Please remember!!! We have been getting lots of rain this spring, which is beautiful, but let's keep em hydrated all summer too!!
It's early May and we're already into a hot, dry summer with temperatures expected to reach into the thirties this weekend. Remember to water your trees two or three times per week and not just recently planted ones, but mature trees as well.
A good rule of thumb is to water enough to moisten the soil at least 6 to 9 inches (15 to 22 cm) deep around the roots. Another way to estimate it is about 10 gallons (40 litres) for each inch of the tree trunk's diameter.
Remember that for mature trees, you don't need to water around the trunk so much as those roots are well established. Water beyond the drip line where the newer feeder roots are growing.
