Gardeners, I know it's been difficult to get any yard work done with all this rain. On a positive note, all this rain actually makes it easier to w**d your flower beds, Dandelions and other deep rooted w**ds are easily removed with the full root intact. Simply use your hand shovel to dig down parallel to the w**d to create a crevice then gentlty grab the w**d as close to the ground and gently twist to eradicate the full root....

Do you have Chives in your garden for just a flower? If so, now is the time to cut them back. If you don't before they go to seed they will re-seed throughout your flower gardens and become invasive. The flowers are currently dying off, just cut them all off and bag them.

I finally nailed a natural w**d killer today after many trials and fails. One gallon of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of Dawn dish soap and 1-1/2 cups of Epsom salts. Mixed, put into a dedicated watering can and worked like a charm...

Spring is here and so are the ants!! Make your own ant bait traps. A coffee cup of boiling water, 2 tablespoons of Borax, stir until dissolved, add honey, stir again. Put cotton balls into the cup to soak up the mixture, let cool and place soaked cotton balls in wine caps or pop caps. Place strategically where you see ants. The "syrup" will attract ants, may be heavy traffic, but they will take back to the nest and ultimately die and kill the Queen as well. Can be placed indoors or out. Mine are all indoors and want to catch them early before infestation occurs!

February is clean your appliances month! Some tips...

Dishwasher...

1/2 cup of Baking Soda in a dish on top rack. 1/2 cup of White Vinegar in a dish on bottom rack...you would be surprised what germs lurk in your dishwasher. Remember to always clean your filter on a regular basis as well.

Vacuum...

If you have a canister vacuum empty before half full. Wipe down inside of canister and rinse the filter to eliminate dust mite droppings, pet dander, dust, hair, etc., once a month.

Washing Machine...

Use White Vinegar or CLR, run through a warm water cycle. Kills mold and E-coli in the tub.

Microwave...

Place a bowl of Vinegar in a small dish, heat for 1 minute, wipe down. Sparkling clean!

Happy start to your Spring cleaning!!

So we made it, on the upside to Spring! Have you made your list of annuals for this year? Now is the time! Mine is complete. Can you tell I am anxious!! Aren't we all!!

You can also start to fertilize your indoor plants. Geraniums, if you brought yours indoors in the Fall, cut them back now to allow regeneration before putting outside.

This is also the time to contact your garden people/landscapers, they need advance notice for your yard work, landscape plans, stone work, etc...as they book up quickly!

Working with a new medium today to paint furniture, Country Chic Paint. A clay-based paint, like chalk but better. Little prep is required and the finish is amazing. I am using Simplicity, a white, for my first project. Such beautiful colours to choose from. My next project will definitely be a statement piece. Check them out, countrychicpaint.com.

I know we are all anxious to get out and start planting annuals after our long Winter!! However, there is a frost warning for tonight, nothing unusual for May. I recommend buying your annuals after the May long weekend. Why, because if you buy before you can plant them, they can inevitably die, especially if you are storing your plants in a garage or left outside. Frost can still occur after the May long weekend...I speak from many years of experience. Good luck and have fun planting!!
