Carpenter ants are some of the largest ants in North America. They excavate decaying trees to build HUGE colonies!
Large colonies like this one can seriously damage the inside of the tree, while the outside still looks healthy.
Signs to look out for:
Piles of sawdust like material, hollow sounding wood and ants emerging from cracks.
This tree had become heavily damaged and had to be removed before it became a hazard.
