LAURÉATS | Lancé en 2021 par le Centre d’art Battat, le concours privé pour la transformation du 333, rue Port-Royal Ouest visait à offrir une nouvelle vie à un bâtiment industriel, en le réorientant vers un usage artistique ouvert, pluriel et engagé. Nous avons eu l’honneur d’être désignés lauréats au terme d’un processus exigeant, à la fois programmatique et prospectif.
Si cette annonce intervient tardivement, c’est qu’elle s’inscrit dans une posture volontaire de retrait. La retenue observée depuis la sélection n’est pas une absence, mais une forme d’attention : une manière de reconnaître que toute architecture porte en elle une part d’incertitude, et qu’un projet engagé dans une transformation environnementale réelle appelle moins l’énoncé immédiat que l’expérimentation silencieuse.
Le futur CAB sera un lieu de création, d’exposition et d’échanges, un lieu habité par les pratiques contemporaines, mais fondé sur une lecture précise de l’existant. Le projet s’appuie sur les qualités intrinsèques du bâtiment d’origine : sa structure libre, ses hauteurs, ses potentialités de porosité, afin d’en proposer une réactivation douce mais résolue.
Nous avons pensé ce bâtiment comme une infrastructure d’accueil : une architecture qui aspire à devenir un support attentif aux usages, aux rythmes et aux transformations lentes.

Launched in 2021 by the Centre d’art Battat, the private competition for the transformation of 333 Port-Royal Ouest sought to give new life to an industrial building by reorienting it toward an artistic use that is open, plural, and engaged. We had the honor of being selected as laureates at the end of a rigorous process that was both programmatic and forward-looking.
If this announcement comes later than expected, it is because it reflects a deliberate posture of restraint. The discretion observed since the selection is not an absence, but a form of attentiveness: a way of acknowledging that every architectural project carries a degree of uncertainty, and that a project committed to genuine environmental transformation calls less for immediate proclamation than for quiet experimentation.
The future CAB will be a place for creation, exhibition, and exchange, a place inhabited by contemporary practices yet grounded in a precise reading of the existing conditions. The project builds on the intrinsic qualities of the original structure: its open framework, its generous heights, and its latent porosity, in order to propose a gentle but resolute reactivation.
We conceived this building as a welcoming infrastructure, an architecture that aspires to become a careful support for evolving uses, shifting rhythms, and slow transformations.
