A recent act of generosity from a local business is helping ease pressure at the Moose Jaw and District Food Bank, as the organization continues to respond to growing need across the community.
Cypress Paving Ltd. contributed $5,000 to the food bank in late March, joining a growing number of local businesses stepping forward to support the organization at a time when more individuals and families are relying on its services.
That support comes against a broader backdrop of rising costs for housing, food, and everyday essentials, which continue to place strain on households across Moose Jaw. In recent months, the food bank has reported sustained growth in demand, including an increase in first-time clients.
Donations like this help ensure shelves remain stocked and services remain accessible for those who depend on them.
Local partnerships continue to play a key role in supporting those efforts. A recent agreement with Simpson Seeds Inc - Careers is providing monthly shipments of lentils and chickpeas to help meet demand for culturally appropriate foods, while community initiatives such as Dance Images’ annual “Dance for Hunger” event — held March 22 — have historically contributed an average of about 1,300 pounds of food each year.
Residents looking to get involved can contribute through donations, volunteering, or supporting local initiatives aimed at addressing food insecurity.
