Planning to get your trees trimmed in St. John's, NL? 🌳 Here are 4 questions to ask before shaking hands.
In Newfoundland, we value good relationships and a strong handshake, but when it comes to work on your property, it's always best to add a bit of "written" clarity. To ensure that after the arborists' visit, you're left with only beautiful trees and peace of mind, here's a small checklist from us:
1. "Do you have insurance and WorkplaceNL coverage?"
This is probably the most important thing. Tree work is risky. Make sure the company has Liability Insurance and is covered by WorkplaceNL. If a company doesn't have coverage and a worker gets injured on your lawn, the responsibility (and the costs) could fall on you as the homeowner.
2. "Can we document the details in writing?"
To avoid a "he said, she said" situation or "I thought that was included," always ask for confirmation via Email, Messenger, or an official contract. It should be clear: exactly what's being done, when, and for how much. A paper trail is the best way to keep a good relationship with your contractor.
3. "What exactly is included in the cost?"
Clarify this before work begins. Does the price include the removal of all branches and cleanup? Sometimes an attractively low price means you'll be left clearing a mountain of wood from your lawn after the crew leaves. Always have a clear understanding of what you're paying for.
4. "How will you protect my roof, fence, and other property?"
St. John's is known for its well-kept yards. Ask how the crew plans to lower heavy branches and where their equipment will be positioned. Professionals will always explain how they minimize their impact on your property.
Choose a company you feel comfortable communicating with. Asking questions is perfectly normal! And remember: written agreements are your best friend.
If you need advice on your trees in St. John's or the surrounding areas, or just want an estimate—send us a message or give us a call. We're always happy to advise and help! 🌿

Some trees can look completely healthy from the outside — but be decaying inside.

Internal decay often starts after small injuries, broken branches, or old pruning cuts. Over time, fungi can slowly break down the structural wood inside the trunk.

From the outside the tree may still have green leaves and look strong, but internally the wood that holds the tree upright may already be compromised.

This is why professional tree assessments are important — especially for large trees close to homes, driveways, or power lines.

Safe Removal of a Fallen Tree

Even a tree that appears strong and healthy can unexpectedly fail due to natural factors such as heavy snow, saturated soil, strong winds, or sudden temperature changes.

In situations like this, a professional approach is essential — with proper risk assessment, controlled ex*****on, and close attention to the safety of people, structures, and the surrounding property.
