Today I installed 2 32” exterior fiberglass doors in a mobile home in yellow point. Often doors for mobile homes have shorter opening heights than standard exterior doors so custom doors need to be ordered.

I ordered these doors from Demxx Yard in Coombs. They sell new doors and have a full door shop on site and can often have doors ready in about 2 weeks.

I applied 2 coats of exterior white paint to the doors and jambs. I still need to paint some combface trim and install it in about a week. I also have a storm door and another door to install for this client.

The past few days I have been working on building a small deck/platform for a great client in Ladysmith that’s waiting for a hot tub to be delivered from West Coast Factory Direct Hot Tubs.

The area is only accessible by stairs so the hot tub will be craned into the backyard.

I built the platform using pressure treated 4x6 Timbers that were notched and screwed together. I then build a structure using double 2x6’s to support the 2x6 decking.

I also built a privacy screen using 3’x6’ cedar gates from Rona.

The deck needed to support the hot tub. The dry weight is 600lbs. With water it will weigh 2600lbs.

I have been working for some great clients replacing their carpets in 2 bedrooms with laminate flooring. When I pulled up carpet I found linoleum that didn’t cover the subfloor completely so I had to mix some Mapei self leveler to even things out. In my 15 years in business this is the first time I have needed to use a self leveler. I think it turned out pretty good. The floor I did today used 75 lbs of leveler.

Here’s another job that I completed this week.

My clients had new countertops, backsplash and kitchen sink installed. This resulted in the cabinet doors under the sink being too big. With the help of my dad Brad we were able to shorten the height of the doors by about 5”. I really enjoy working with my dad in his shop. I have learned so much from him over the years. I also had to drill for the European cabinet hinges using a kreg jig. My clients are really happy with how the sink cabinet turned out.

I also cut 1/2” off the bottoms of a couple of bedroom doors as they were rubbing the carpet.

I really enjoy the variety of work that I’m asked to complete.

Today I finished working on a laminated pine shelving unit for Vennessa Griffins binders of sewing patterns. I started building it in the spring and put it off to the side for the summer.

Feels good to get another element of her sewing room finished. It sure is a nice room; it was very rough when I started rebuilding it.
