Currant flowers. 🌿

These inconspicuous little green flowers will soon turn into bright red or black berries in early summer.

Soon the shrubs will be loaded with fruit. Can’t wait! 👍

Very excited I was able to get a glimpse of these Tamarack/Larch flowers. 🌸
It was a young tree only 3 - 6 years old, growing at the edge of a field in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.
The Tamarack is a conifer tree that drops its needles every year. The needles look hard and spiky but get up close and they actually feel soft and rubbery. 🌲

Every year I get a photo of these same White Ash flowers in my neighbourood and I’m almost certain its from the same bud, from the same overhanging branch.
The colours are just so vibrant, and the shape they form is extraordinary when you stop and take a closer look.

We picked some fresh rhubarb this morning, made a homemade spread, and had it on toast. 🌱🍞What a wonderful morning.

Peach tree flowers.
Can't remember if its Red haven or Reliance.
This year we are hoping to graft some peaches, but..... it will take a couple of years for the plants to be ready for your gardens. 😊

Rhodora in bloom. 🌸

One of Nova Scotia’s most beautiful native flowering shrubs.

The vibrant purple-pink flowers almost glow against the still awakening spring landscape. When you get up close, the flower structure is absolutely incredible with its long curved stamens and twisted petals.

We came across what we called a “Rhodora forest” and absolutely enjoyed every minute of being there. 👍

You’ll often find Rhodora growing around wetlands, barrens, lakeshores, and acidic soils throughout Nova Scotia.

Latin name:
Rhododendron canadense

These flowers are from a Sugar Maple tree that is well over 100 years old.
The flowers are quite the sight this year. I am seeing them everywhere right now.
The soft green colour really stands out amonst the bare leaved forest.

The forsythia in full bloom.
Such a beautiful shrub that makes a statement from a distance.
Then when you take a closer look, the fine details of each individual flower are just amazing to look at.

These ash tree flowers are starting to bloom. 🌿

White Ash on one side, Black Ash on the other.

Each species has its own unique flower structure and timing.

It’s one of those short spring moments that reminds you the forest is waking back up again after winter. 👍
