DID YOU KNOW THAT...

The words VARIETY, CULTIVAR, and HYBRID all have separate definitions?

People often use these words/taxonomical rankings interchangeably, and there is mostly nothing wrong with that! However, if you want to get into the nitty-gritty, there are precise (scientific) differences among the three.

VARIETY: Varieties develop innately due to various conditions in specific locations where the plant grows naturally.

CULTIVAR (aka, "CULTIvated VARiety"): Cultivars are man-made varieties that do not occur naturally. Rather, they are bred/altered by humans to create different versions of previous varieties found in nature.

HYBRID: Although hybrids may occur naturally by cross-pollination, many times they have been intentionally bred together to improve/enhance exceptional qualities of 2 or more varieties.

Welcome to Plant Parenthood – your local tropical houseplant boutique & nursery in Temiskaming Shores!

Preparations for renovations are in full swing at 210 Armstrong Street in New Liskeard and we are thrilled to begin serving the community we live in.

Our aim is to provide you with the widest selection of tropical houseplants in Northern Ontario – from the common plants you know and love to the rarest and most unique we can get our hands on (and, everything in between!)

Don’t see the tropical houseplant you’re looking for? We won’t rest until we’ve found it and/or cultivated it for you. Be the envy of all your friends when you find that hidden gem you’ve all been looking for!

Whether you’re at the beginning of your journey as a plant parent, or you’re looking to expand your current collection, Plant Parenthood aims to be your one-stop shop for all things houseplant.
