Anyone can build a new house, but what interests us is preserving the story.

These beams were carefully salvaged, restored, and incorporated into the new design, creating a meaningful connection between what once stood here and the home that exists today.

Sometimes design decisions are not about what you add, but what you choose to carry forward.

What a beautiful day celebrating my gorgeous future daughter in-law Brittany as she gets ready to marry my son, Connor, in just a few short weeks.

Watching family and friends gather around her was such a special reminder of how loved she is, and how lucky we are to welcome her into our family.

A heartfelt thank you to .andbloom for the stunning flowers and décor, for hosting us so beautifully, and for the gorgeous custom bracelet station. Thank you as well to everyone who helped make the day so thoughtful, memorable, and full of love.

Now the countdown to the wedding begins!

After nearly 20 years of designing homes, I've noticed something.

Most people begin a project believing the goal is to create a beautiful house. And while beauty certainly matters, it rarely ends up being what they're most grateful for.

What they're grateful for is how the home feels once they're living in it. The ease of a kitchen that functions effortlessly. The dining room where family naturally gathers. The comfort of knowing everything has a place and the confidence that the home supports their life rather than complicates it.

The longer I do this work, the more I believe good design isn't about creating a beautiful home. It's about creating a home that makes everyday life feel a little better.

The beauty is simply the result.

We're noticing a shift.

Clients are asking less for homes that impress and more for homes that invite people in.

Spaces that feel layered.
Spaces that feel personal.
Spaces that naturally become part of everyday life.

This breakfast nook may not be the largest space in the home, but it becomes quite a special one. A place where the family can gather, connect, and return to day after day.

The success of a kitchen is rarely found in a single feature and more often found in the relationship between details.

The pendant lighting introduces presence and softness above the island, while the brass hardware brings warmth, proportion, and rhythm to the cabinetry. Together, they create a subtle thread that moves throughout the space, connecting millwork, finishes, and furnishings into a composition that feels calm, cohesive, and considered.

Thoughtful layering for a timeless kitchen.

Tile is one of our favourite ways to introduce character into a space.
In this bathroom, pattern is expressed in 2 distinct ways. By combining the two, we were able to create a layered composition that feels rich and interesting without overwhelming the room.

The herringbone floor derives its pattern from the installation itself, introducing movement and rhythm across the space. The wall tile, by contrast, carries its own pattern and texture. Because the material already had so much to say, a simple stacked installation felt like the right choice.

The interplay between the two creates depth and visual interest while maintaining a sense of balance. Warm wood, soft stone, and aged brass complete the palette, adding warmth and softness without competing for attention.

When planning a new kitchen, it's easy to focus on finishes. The better question is: how do you want the space to work? Before selecting cabinetry colours, countertops, or lighting, consider:

• How you cook
• How you entertain
• What frustrates you about your current kitchen
• What needs to be hidden
• What deserves to be displayed
• Where clutter tends to collect
• How your family naturally moves through the space
• Which details will still feel timeless years from now

The most successful kitchens are not defined by a single finish or feature. They are thoughtfully designed around the people who use them every day.

Beautiful is important. Function is essential. The magic happens when the two work together.

There is something grounding about a dining room that feels deeply connected to tradition without feeling overly formal or predictable.

Layered florals, collected artwork, heirloom furnishings, aged brass, and soft neutral cabinetry create a palette that feels timeless but still fresh. Even the smallest details, from the scalloped hardware to the tailored Roman shade, were considered as part of the larger story.

Spaces like this remind us that warmth does not come from excess. It comes from restraint, contrast, and thoughtful layering.

Weekend plans: up or down?

Upstairs is where the farmhouse feels brightest. Sun pouring through the windows. Family spread between the kitchen, dining family area, and four season room. The kind of space that can handle a full house without ever feeling too formal.

Downstairs feels a little more tucked in. Easier. The room people disappear to when they want to watch a movie, play cards, read for an hour, or let the kids take over for the night.

Same farmhouse.
Two completely different ways to spend a weekend in Mono.

This mudroom and laundry room was designed to handle real life without feeling overly practical or stripped of personality. Floor to ceiling storage to hide the chaos. Durable materials that can withstand everyday wear. A deep farmhouse sink that actually gets used. And enough warmth, texture, and mood that the space still feels connected to the rest of the home rather than tucked away from it.

Because utility spaces should still feel good to walk into.
Especially the ones you use every single day.
