The right contractor doesn't just build your renovation — they protect your home throughout the process.

When renovations are underway, there’s a lot more happening than just construction. Proper protection, dust control, material staging, site organization, and scheduling all play a critical role in keeping the rest of your home safe, clean, and functional throughout the process.

At Mitchell Contracting, we put a lot of thought into how construction impacts the spaces around the work area. From dust protection and site organization to making sure materials and trades are coordinated properly, our goal is to minimize disruption while protecting one of your biggest investments.

Anyone can focus on the finished product.

Experienced contractors focus on the process that gets you there.

Because a successful renovation isn't just measured by how it looks when it's done — it's measured by how well your home was cared for along the way.

A staircase update can completely change the feel of a home — and this project is a perfect example of that.

For this renovation, we completed a full oak recap of the existing staircase, along with new spindles, handrail, and newel posts to give the entire space a cleaner and more updated look.

Once stained to match the upstairs hardwood, the staircase will tie seamlessly into the rest of the home and create a much more cohesive feel throughout the space.

Details like this make a big impact. A well-designed staircase isn’t just functional — it becomes an architectural feature that helps connect the home together.

Excited to share the finished result once the stain and final details are complete.

A successful renovation has very little to do with the finishes — and everything to do with the planning.

Before any work begins, there needs to be a clear understanding of the layout, structure, timelines, and how every part of the project is going to come together.

Because if the planning isn’t done properly, no amount of expensive finishes or materials will fix the end result.

The best renovations always start with a solid plan, clear communication, and a process that’s built around the home and the people living in it.

That foundation is what allows the finished space to not only look great — but function properly and come together smoothly from start to finish.

The backyard transformation at our Niagara Falls project is officially starting to take shape.

The next phase of this renovation focuses on transforming the backyard into a more functional and finished outdoor living space.

The existing deck has been removed, and we’re now preparing for a new concrete patio and attached covered cabana. We’ve completed the helical pile installation, which will provide the foundation for the new structure as framing begins.

Inside the cabana, we’ll be finishing the ceiling with cedar tongue and groove to bring warmth and character to the space.

As the project has progressed, the homeowner has also decided to expand the exterior scope to include a new walkway from the driveway to the backyard, along with a new driveway installation to create one seamless and cohesive look throughout the property.

Excited to see this outdoor space continue to come together over the next few weeks just in time for the warm weather.

When it comes to additions, the most important part of the project isn’t just the new space — it’s how the new space connects to the rest of your home.

Opening up the exterior of a house requires careful planning, coordination, and timing. Once walls and roofs are opened, protecting the existing structure becomes just as important as building the addition itself.

At Mitchell Contracting, we take that responsibility seriously.

From temporary protection and weatherproofing to scheduling the right trades and materials at the right time, our goal is to make sure your home stays protected and the transition between old and new feels seamless.

Your home is likely your biggest investment, and having the right contractor means working with a team that understands how to manage not just the build itself — but everything surrounding it.

A successful addition comes down to preparation, communication, and experience. When those pieces are in place, the process is smoother, the home is protected, and the final result feels like it was always meant to be there.

As cabinetry installation begins, the transformation of this Niagara Falls kitchen is really starting to come to life.

One of the biggest changes in this renovation came from rethinking the kitchen layout and making better use of the existing space.

By slightly opening up the bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room, we were able to create a much more functional layout without adding any extra square footage. The original small island was replaced with a full peninsula, creating better flow and more workspace.

We also incorporated a new cabinetry pantry to improve storage and help open up the overall feel of the kitchen.

Projects like this are a great example of how important thoughtful planning and working with the right cabinetry designer can be. A well-designed layout can completely transform how a kitchen looks and functions — often without needing to expand the footprint at all.

One of the biggest misconceptions in renovations is that the cheaper quote saves you money.

In reality, lower pricing often comes from missing scope, rushed planning, or shortcuts that can end up costing more long-term through change orders, delays, or having to redo work later on.

That’s why it’s so important to compare apples to apples when reviewing estimates.

At Mitchell Contracting, we focus on creating a clear scope of work from the beginning and building a process around the specific needs of your home, budget, timeline, and overall goals for the project.

A successful renovation isn’t just about the final result — it’s about having the right planning, communication, and team in place from start to finish.

With a detailed scope, experienced trades, and a contractor who’s invested in bringing your vision to life, the entire process becomes much smoother for everyone involved.

The Niagara Falls project is really starting to come together

We’ve hit another big milestone on this project with the tile now fully installed and grouted, and the space is really starting to come together.

We also updated the staircase by removing the existing radius step and completing a full oak recap. Once stained to match the upstairs hardwood, it’ll create a much cleaner and more seamless transition throughout the home.

Today, Oakridge Cabinets will also be onsite to begin cabinetry installation — one of the stages where the design really starts to take shape.

A lot of moving parts go into a renovation at this stage, but seeing all the finishes and details start to come together makes the process exciting for both our team and the homeowners.
