Looking for a painter? Here are a few tips to help you find a reputable painter and save you heartache and regret!
1. Go to your local paint store. They know all the local contractors and can recommend someone. They hear all the stories so they know who’s reliable and who isn’t!
2. Ask questions. A good painter should be knowledgeable about paint products and can make recommendations. No one can fix a previously terrible paint job without a lot of prep and patching, and even then, won’t be back to perfect! If they act like it’s no big deal and make promises of perfection, they aren’t being honest with you.
3. Seek experience. Not everyone is a painter, even if they say they are. Ask how long they have been in the business. If you aren’t sure, ask for references. The best recommendation is word of mouth. When it comes to allowing someone in your home, you want professionalism and reliability.
4. Like everything in life, you get what you pay for. Your home was an investment and you want it to shine. Choosing the cheapest and fastest contractor will likely leave you disappointed. You pay for experience and professionalism. Someone who takes your expectations seriously and can deliver.
5. Trust your gut! How is their communication? Do they show up when they say? Do they appear professional? Is the person who does your quote the person who will be coming to paint or are they sending someone else? We have all met with someone and you get a sense that something just isn’t right, or they are constantly rebooking, show up late and leave you feeling like you don’t matter. If they don’t value your time, they won’t value your paint job.
6. Plan ahead! If a painter is good, they are busy! Don’t be caught in the trap of a short timeline and having to take whoever is available. if you are thinking of painting in the near future, book a quote and commit early!
I hope these tips help for your future painting projects!
