Protect the trees on your property from Douglas fir and Spruce beetles this spring by installing MCH bubble packs. We have everything you need at B&B to get you started before they start to fly. It is suggested to install the packs before middle to end of April and/or before the weather reaches 18 degrees for 3 consecutive days. If this is something you are interested in, give Katie a call at 250 706 8111 š²šŖ²
I will be ordering the packs next week, so if youād like to get on our pre order list, text, call or email us with how many packs you would like. 50% deposit will be required.
Hereās a little bit about how the MCH works:
Every spring when the beetles start to fly, female beetles initiate an attack and bore into the bark on the āhost treeā. They then create a nest for their eggs and release a strong pheromone to attract other male and females to the tree. Once they mate, the males release an anti aggregation pheromone called MCH. That tells all the other beetles in the neighbourhood that the tree is full and has no more room left for any more to come and occupy the tree and the attack on the tree stops any new bugs from entering. MCH bubble packs contain that same pheromone that the males release, telling other beetles and this area has āno vacancyā and as a result they will not infest and damage/kill the trees. They will keep flying until they find another host tree that does not have that pheromone, ultimately protecting YOUR trees. We charge $15 per bubble pack if you install them on the trees yourself, or $20 per pack if we come and install for you. We recommend installing 1 pack every 40-50 feet between trees. If you choose to install yourself we will give installation instructions upon purchase. š
