JoT Architecture

JoT Architecture Design that Fits At JoT Architecture, “Design that Fits” is a philosophy that shapes everything we do.

For us, great architecture isn’t just about how a space looks — it’s about how it feels, how it functions, and how it supports the people
who use it. Every project we design is a reflection of what fits best for you and your unique needs.

Have you ever been inside the Library and Archives Canada building📚? Built in 1967 by Mathers and Haldenby, the fenestration and building massing are signature characteristics to this structure. The interior marble tiling, brass details and gold mosaic accents work harmoniously to elevate the space.

While portions of the building are open for public access, Doors Open Ottawa allowed people to explore the typically restricted 7th floor used for storage and preservation. The small punched windows are purposefully sized to reduce the damaging impact of sunlight on the archived items while maintaining beautiful views to Parliament and LeBreton Flats.

Another peek into one of Ottawa's most important landmarks - The Supreme Court of Canada⚖️👩‍⚖️. Embellished with high ceilings, extravagant amounts of marble, and detailed brass accents, this designated heritage building is where Canada's top legal cases are heard. Designed by Montreal architect Ernest Cormier in 1939, a combination of Chateauesque and Art Deco styles were used.

Thankfully we were able to tour this beautiful building before a decade long closure is scheduled for renovations to the walls and windows, mechanical, electrical and building safety.

💫🔭📉This past weekend we had the chance to explore the Dominion Observatory at the Experimental Farm, designed by Canadian architect David Ewart and completed in 1902. The Romanesque Revival style is highlighted by the signature round arches, intricate stonework, and cylindrical components.

Strategically positioned at the time for minimized light pollution and close proximity to a fault line, this heritage building allowed for the study of astronomy, seismology, gravity and surveying. Fun fact: The Canadian Prime Meridian cuts through the western wing of the building and is indicated with plaques.

We were thrilled to celebrate with Nepean Housing Corporation the Grand Opening of 20 Dunbar this week!

Completed in 2025, this new net-zero ready, affordable rent apartment building is now home to 31 individuals and families. It was particularly moving to hear from residents about the features they love most about their new homes.

Several local, provincial, and federal representatives joined the event and ribbon cutting ceremony and expressed how this project is an outstanding example for future affordable housing projects.

We are proud to be part of the team who helped bring this vision to life ❤️🏡
