Protect your investment

Having a dry basement can be a valuable asset. Home buyers often overlook the value of a dry basement. You may have been told by your real estate agent that you should not get your basement waterproofed because it won’t add value to your home, but that’s not true in the least!

The reality is that homeowners are missing out on thousands of dollars in potential profit when they don’t waterproof their basements. The more money you put into strategically upgrading your home, the more money you will likely get when it’s time to sell.

"Stephen was a life saver for some clients foundations. Made time to squeeze us in and then did a fantastic job repairing the foundation after. Can’t recommend him enough. Wise crack is the best."

There’s a simple reason why rain in the early new year months floods so many basements.

The results of any leaking into your basement will not be good. Sometimes even relatively healthy exterior drains can be overloaded. It’s like having a small stream or river pouring next to your wall. Then water enters from under the floor or hydrostatically between your floor and the concrete wall.

Wise Cracks® offers professional services for residential and light commercial requirements. Our products and services are designed to provide a permanent solution to concrete and foundation problems.

Why Waiting Costs More

Small cracks rarely stay small. Delaying action can lead to:
• Water intrusion
• Mold growth
• Cold air leakage and higher heating bills
• Long-term structural deterioration

Early assessment and repair are significantly more cost-effective than addressing damage after it spreads.

How winter conditions can accelerate foundation problems

Beyond temperature swings, several common winter conditions can increase pressure on your foundation:

• Poor water management around the home
• Frozen or plugged eavestroughs causing water to overflow
• Moisture-retaining soil backfilled against foundation walls
• Snow piled against the house or window wells
• Unsealed or uncovered window wells
• Concrete steps or slabs shifting against foundation walls
• Snow buildup on decks that melts and drains toward the foundation

Canadian winters often include sudden thaws that release large volumes of water over a short period. When drainage systems are compromised, melting snow and winter rain can collect around the foundation and increase the risk of basement leaks.

Key areas to monitor include:

Gutters and downspouts: They should remain clear and direct water well away from the foundation

Grading: Soil should slope away from the home, even under snow cover

Concrete surfaces: Sunken driveways, walkways, or patios can channel water toward foundation walls

Client Story from Kelowna, BC

The customer was complaining of water coming into their basement. After conducting an outside foundation inspection, we found a crack directly at the corner of the window. We removed some drywall and found a larger crack.

Injected with our Wise Seal Resin. This foundation crack will come with a lifetime warranty.

No more water coming through this crack that's for sure!!
