Additions to a home require a nuanced hand. From planning and initiating, reworking mechanicals and working backwards from old elevations to determine the new.

Incredible consideration has to be made to make sure that you breath new life into the existing without compromising it by attaching something new with too little thought. We've been here many times and it always feels good to get a blank canvas in the dirt!

Unbuttoned this one after the winter and closed it back up properly.

Windows and doors are in, exterior insulation is on, and the timber bent that makes up the deck structure has been raised. A bit more prep work and we'll be ready to get the siding, soffit and fascia on.

Been a very interesting experience on this build. We typically do the footings on every project we're a part of but this one was unique in the sense that we did the footings, foundation, framing and raising. The entire build had to be worked back from the timber structure which was already precut and purchased by the client. We started with centre dimensions of the timber frame and worked back to outside framing dimensions then accounted for foam to determine outside dimensions of ICF foundation which then determined our footing dimensions. The allowable tolerance was down to the 16th of an inch. The best way to keep this as tight as possible was to limit the number of hands on the build. Looking forward to closing this in before the holidays. Follow along with the stories for updates.

A preview of the fireplace on the job we just wrapped up. Reclaimed barn beam mantle with an INTERIOR bastard hip roof. Don't do too many of those. All we had to work off of was a pinterest post and interior designer drawings so we had to do a bit of framers engineering. When the Mason is finished and we can pull up the floor coverings I'll be posting more of the job. There was a lot to this frame to finish. Had a ton of fun on this one.

Flashback to a few weeks ago when we wrapped up the cobourg addition. Very interesting roof. 10/12 parallel cord on the front by the dormers and 7/12 on the backside. The main gable roof was 10/12 scissor trusses with a window that goes into the gable wall which was built on the ground and craned in place. Normally we would have built this entire wall and stood it in place but the left side is an elevator shaft with continuous studs speced by the engineer.

Small filler job we wrapped up a few weeks back. Havent posted in a while ive been doing very tedious backframing stuff at jones after the fire rated drywall was installed. Nothing instagram worthy lol

There's not much to this little deck but it ended up looking really nice with no exposed fasteners.
