The Friday Five 🤍 Another week has come and gone, and here are a few little glimpses behind
-the-scenes at Birchview Design:

1. Our friends at Monaghan Lumber Specialties made a delivery of Trex | Outdoor Living Products goodies this week, which means one thing…deck work is up next! Exciting to see this next piece come together 🔨

2. The first trees have officially gone in at Grace Cottage (shoutout to Peterborough Gardening for the amazing service)! There is something so special about this stage of a project - watching the exterior begin to take shape and knowing these trees will grow alongside this cottage for many years to come🌳

3. A beautiful sunny day for a Project Consultation with Aimee. These early conversations are such an important part of our process - walking through a property together, talking about how our clients want to live in their home, and beginning to uncover all the possibilities ☀️

4. I snuck away for a girls’ weekend in the Algonquin Highlands, at the most incredible off-grid cottage. The rugged topography honestly felt like we had been transported to the West Coast. Any clients this area looking for a design firm, let us at this landscape! 🤩

5. And saving one of the best for last. Our wonderful client took the time to share this incredibly kind comment on yesterday’s post about her experience working with our firm, and it truly meant so much to our entire team. Knowing that our clients felt supported and cared for throughout such a significant project is ultimately what this work is all about. The fact that she wanted to shout it from the rooftops (or Facebook 😉) is such an honour. We are so grateful for the trust our clients place in us 🏡

The Friday Five 🤍 Another week has gone and gone, and it’s time for a few behind-the-scenes shots from life at Birchview Design:

1. Our Grace Cottage client reveal has officially taken place, and what a wonderful day it was! Seeing our clients walk through the finished spaces and be able to enjoy them is truly one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. We are still swooning at this custom L A R i S S A C L A Y T O N triptych art + the 𝕊𝕚𝕝𝕧𝕒 ℂ𝕦𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕞 𝔽𝕦𝕣𝕟𝕚𝕥𝕦𝕣𝕖 custom furniture 🖼️

2. We also sat down with our wonderful clients to hear about their experience working with Birchview Design. Our team is always incredibly grateful when our clients wish to share their experience with the world. There is no greater compliment than hearing, in their own words, what having our team alongside them throughout the process has meant. We can’t wait to share more from this conversation 🎥

3. Aimee had the very important job of popping the ch*****ne before we walked our clients through their completed spaces. After everything that goes into a project of this scale, this moment deserves to be celebrated! 🥂

4. Something big is brewing... 👀 And unfortunately, this mysterious little photo is about all we can share right now. Ha! As with many exciting things around here, you’ll just have to stay tuned 📍

5. My family and I had such a wonderful time at the Peterborough Folk Festival this past weekend. My children loved dancing and listening to the incredible artists, the food was delicious, and the entire weekend was such a beautiful reminder of what makes our community so special. It’s an event we look forward to every year, and we were so happy to be there again 🎶

A big week of celebrating projects, clients, exciting things to come, and the community we’re so fortunate to call home. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead 🤍

For over 85 years, my family has been lucky enough to have this little slice of heaven woven into our story - generations of summers, traditions and memories that have shaped how I think about cottage life. I think that’s why designing legacy cottages feels so personal to us here at Birchview Design - I feel so connected to how special these properties truly are.

When a cottage has been in a family for generations, it’s never simply about making it more beautiful. It’s about understanding what makes it feel like *your* cottage - the quirks, the traditions, the familiar details and the memories attached to them - and thoughtfully carrying that feeling forward.

Because the best cottage renovations or builds don’t erase the story that was already there. They make room for the next chapter 🤍

The Friday Five 🤍

Another week has come and gone, and it’s time for a few behind-the-scenes shots of life at Birchview Design:

1. Materials have started arriving this week (thanks to our friends Monaghan Lumber Specialties 🪵) for our new studio, and we couldn’t be more excited! While we’re eager to keep the momentum going, we’ve intentionally shifted our focus to the final push at Grace Cottage before diving back into the studio transformation. Since this is our own space, we have the flexibility to adjust the timeline - our clients’ projects will always come first.

2–4. Speaking of Grace Cottage ... it’s full steam ahead! There is so much happening behind the scenes that our cameras never quite capture (or we’re too busy to). The coordination, scheduling, and real-time problem-solving required in these final weeks is incredible, and we’re so grateful for the talented trades and partners helping bring it all together. The outdoor kitchen is taking shape (and we’re officially swooning), the landscaping is embracing its “make-a-mess-before-it’s-beautiful” stage, and at our office, every accessory has been carefully vignetted, wrapped, labelled, stored and is ready for installation week 🤩

5. I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful event hosted by Caesarstone Canada + Dakaari Fragrance House at The Lake House this week. It was my first visit, and what a beautiful setting to spend an afternoon by the water, connect with fellow industry professionals, and even create a custom perfume - a first for me!

Thank you for following along with another week at Birchview Design. We hope you have a wonderful Civic Holiday weekend! Our studio will be closed on Monday, and we’ll be back in the office on Tuesday, ready for another exciting week.

The Friday Five 🤍

Another week has come and gone, and it’s time for a few behind-the-scenes shots from Birchview Design:

1. Despite a long winter here in cottage country delaying the season, the incredible team at Birchview Excavating has been making up for lost time! It’s so exciting to see the landscaping vision beginning to take shape. Our clients love spending time at the waterfront, and this transformation is going to be something truly special🌲

2. The masonry work for the outdoor kitchen is nearly complete, and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s coming together. This space is designed to blur the lines between indoor comfort and outdoor living - just the way cottage life should feel. Huge thank you to Eastern Restoration Peterborough for the beautiful craftsmanship! 🪨

3. Aimee and I had so much fun taking you behind the scenes with Vanessa West | Squarespace Web Designer as we chatted about our vision for the back portion of our new studio. There’s still lots to do, and we can’t wait to share more 🤍

4. We’ve had the privilege of meeting with several wonderful new clients this week. There’s something incredibly special about being welcomed into someone’s home and hearing their hopes for the future. This beautiful historic window completely captured our attention - it felt like the perfect reminder that every home has a story waiting to be thoughtfully continued 💭

5. I managed to sneak away for a few days to Nashville to celebrate my wedding anniversary. Someone described it as the “Western Las Vegas,” and honestly... they weren’t wrong! Incredible live music, amazing food, lots of dancing, and memories we’ll cherish. But as always, it felt pretty wonderful to come home to some quiet (which is saying something with a pre-schooler + a toddler 😉).
