Got a little fancy on this one
Homeowner wanted to dress up the 6 inch gutter on this little timberframe roof, so i tried my hand at a double face cap!

Im pretty happy with how it turned out 🙂

You can see a regular endcap on the upper gutter on the house.

Now we just need to decide on a good name! Should we stick with "Double face cap"? Or have you got a better suggestion!

This is how we do funnels. Our goal is for debris to flow into the downspout and get caught by a leaf trap around knee height so it's easy to clean.

You'll still have to clean the gutters, but not nearly as often, and you can rinse them out with a hose quite easily.

Downside: Noisy. The water dropping down onto the leaf trap in the downspout can be noisy! Be cautious using these on 2 story downspouts, they can be very loud. Not a good fit for downspouts beside bedrooms. They do get quieter when a little bit of debris builds up in the leaf trap

Notes:
- fold edges of gutter into the funnel for smoother flow
- screw goes in the middle front, and through the back into the fascia so it doesn't snag debris
- we like to put a dab of thick sealant over the screw for when the handyman has to stick his hand in there to clean it out.
- attach the elbow through the back into the fold so that the screw doesn't poke into the path of the debris.
- you can mitigate the noise of the leaf catchers by sloping the downspout so the water slides along the inside rather than drops, but that can look awkward.

Long time no post! Here is one we did recently, 6 inch gutter, new 2x8 fascia board, with a custom gutter apron (drip edge) to cover the last part of the singles. We re-used the existing PVC downspouts at the customers request, and connected to them using gutter funnels.

While the shingles were water tight still, the gap was allowing the wind to push on the underside of the metal roof, and it didn't look very nice.

One side of the building was a 115 ft length. While this could have been done in one piece, there was a large risk of thermal expansion causing buckling and premature fastener failure on the ends. With this in mind we put an expansion joint over one of the downspouts.

Shout out to Blue Mountain Specialties Inc for the idea.

This is a job i finished up fairly recently. I was proud to be part of a team of great people working on this house. I contributed gutters, fascia, and some soffit work. Another person rebuilt the deck and yet others did the new roof!

Some interesting little challenges here like the downspout off the side of the small deck. Huge improvement in both function and appearance!

Its now 8 months in! I've been busy, having done gutter cleaning, roof cleaning/moss removal, gutter replacement, gutter installs (new builds), Fascia replacement, soffit and more!
I'll be adding more photos as we go, so if you like looking at gutters, stay tuned!

These ones are from back in the spring! Cleaned off several years of grime from the outside and inside of the gutter, and added a few downspout funnels. The funnels are particularly useful for areas with fine debris (fir and cedar trees).
- The goal using these is for debris to wash out of the gutters and into a clean out in the downspout (if you have perimeter drains) or out onto the lawn (if you don't). Another advantage of funnels is that your gutters will still flow nicely even with debris in them.
