Pro tip: if you are always looking for ways to get out of your paperwork, become a beekeeper!

As stewards to the honeybees, we understand they have their own plans and supporting them is always top priority! We split this colony last week when we spotted queen cells during a routine inspection and then they decided to swarm anyway!

So, as usual, we stopped what we were doing, suited up and got to work. Check it out!

Sorry about my amateur recording skills, I can't be good at everything 😘

PS. Manda, this is your virgin queen and
she is a brat!! Lucky you! 😆

Part two of video in the comments! ✌️

Hey everyone! It's time to meet Amy! Amy joined the team as my assistant this past spring and is easily one of the best decisions I made in a long time!! Her calm energy has been the balance to my chaos that was so needed.

Amy has been essential in the success of Lady Faer Designs this season doing much of the behind-the-scenes work. A foundational employee but I am also happy to say a wonderful friend.

So say "Hi Amy!" and give her daps if you see her out and about in the gardens.

Awww yisssss. Look what we have in our garden! I planted these last spring because I love the foliage. They stayed green all winter so had a massive head start this spring! Look at the size of these leaves! This plant is a super sexy beast!! We've got 4 artichokes so far. Pretty sweet.

The bees are back at the A-Frame!! This robust colony has been returned for the season! The girls got right to work with their orientation flights and reporting back to the foragers.

They seem quite content in this garden, as if they wouldn't be! Lots of flowers already happening here!

We have been working away for a few months now! Focused on the ever present task list in our beloved A-Frame garden. She's all planted up now we can take a breath!

Took a moment to appreciate all the beautiful colours of our spring flowers and all of our established perennials coming on strong.

Our herb garden is so lush! Our berry crops are all loaded with flowers, our Zoff's Greenhouses are all planted up, already producing flowers and fruit on our tomatoes!!

Now it's maintenance, succession planting and soon enough some steady harvests of organic goodness for the community.

So fortunate to continue to be involved in this beautiful space and all that it is.

I'd say the Strawberries and Methi crops are pretty happy in our Zoff's Greenhouses setup. What do you think?

Been harvesting the Methi and Tulsi leaves pretty steady and the drying rack is running full time these days!

What a busy bee-filled day!! A full apiary inspection that began with the North Island's newest beekeepers!!

Todd and I are so excited to be able to continue to support the Kwakiutl nation in their journey towards food sovereignty, this time through bee stewardship!

Today these wonderful ladies got to meet their bees, and handle and examine their hives for the first time. We practiced finding queens and eggs and learning about different hives components and handling techniques.

Todd and I then carried on inspecting our own hives, all of which are looking great!
